Mrs. Cardiff, 8th can., when only

The honored guest of the evening
was. Mrs. Richard 'Cardiff who was
celebrating her 71st 'birthday and

A splendid supper was served by
the hostess, the evening was most
pleasantly spent in shat and social

The Young People of the United
Church met on Monday night. The
theme ,for the evening wee "Horne,"
and the meeting was opened with
the reading of a poem by the same
title by Mhry Davidson This was
followed by the singing of Hymn
"What a friend we. have in Jesus."
Imogene Sanderson led in parper.
The Scripture Lesson was read by
Luella Mitchell. Atter the busi-
ness part of bhe meeting Mary
Seeker read a poem, entitled "The
Lights of Hoare •',Hymn," Happy
the home when .God is there" was
sung followed by a nolo by Margaret
Pearson. The Topic, "The Home
and. what it means to us" was given
by Mns, Wheeler Alice Pope
played a piano solo and Hymn "De-
ltoid a. stranger at the door" was
-sung. The meeting was closed by
repeating the benediction.

held its November meeting et the

Backer was appointed to bring in a
slate of ofdeers for the next meet -

the dominion department of agri-
culture, say he is satisfied the
epidemic did not originate among
Canadian dogs, The department is
optinrtistic that the disease will not
spread. to other pants of the prov-
ince. The quarantine of 22 •town-
ships in the three counties must re-
main in operation "at least three
months;" Dr. Cameron stated.

of apProxmiately 52,000 in currency,
said to have been stolen or lost
from the ,trunk a an automobile
somewhere between Dungannon
and Auburn last Wednesday even-
ing. 'Manager Sheppard and Teller
Cameron, od Auburn branch of the
Bank of 'Commence spent three days
a week operating a breech in,Dun-
gannon. It was after they had re-
turned last Wednesday evening
after a day's business, in Dungan -
nom and a business trip to Gode-
rich that they discovered.. the Parcel
of money was misting from the rear
of their automobile,

enlisted men less than 19 years of
age in the Canadian Active Service
Force will not be sent to serve over-
seas, Major-General A. G, L. Mc-

will be kept in training until they

ville Presbyterian, 'Church was held
on Friday evening', Robert Bow •

Managers presided, with, 'Allan A,
Lenient, sec, The -various reports in•
dieete a year of worthwhile work
aeoomplished in all departnnents.
R. Bowman gave a . review of the
year's, work of the church, A Pro-
gram was given including a duet
by Mie and Mrs. Earegey; recita-
tion by Helen Armstrong, duet,
June. Work and Jean Matheson;
recitation, Mrs. Gordon McDowell;
solo, W, Spier. Earl Moore spoke
for the Y. P. S. and what to do to
get -the young people to attend. D.
McTavish, superintendent of the
Sunday School, gave an account of
the work there. James' Armstrong
also gave an acaunt of the Sunday
School work, Mee W. Scott spoke
for the Ladies' Aid in the absenee
of the President, Mrs. L . E'ckmtier,
She mentioned that the ladies as-
sisted in helping to pay dor the
decoration of the church which
was done the past summer. Mrs'. I.
Parker spoke: for the W.M;S.,
whose motto is "The World for
Christ." Three hundred dollars
was given for missions last year.
A discussion was held whether to
purchase two, silk flags for the ' pul-
pit and for the National Anthem to
be sung at the close of the service
during the duration of the war, Dr.
W. D. S. Jaffeson of the board of
managers, Spoke on how to meet
the deficit of the year.
