Old Soccer Cup
Taking the last of a five game
series 5-1 from Brussels soccer
senad, St. Columban's eleven re-
tained, for the sixth successive year,
the ancient Junior W.F.A. trophy
that has been up for competition
each year since 1885 when it was
played for in an exhibition• game
at the Chicago World's Fair. The
namespiastered mug is insured for
$150.
,St, Columban won three games
and had one tie in the series and
despite .the lop -sided score met stiff
oompotition in the game played at
Seaforth Tuesday night. The field
was in comparatively good condi"
ion considering the recent rains
and play was fast and clean.
In the first minute of play
Brussels was awarded a penalty
kick and Danbrook beat Stapleton
in St. Columban's net to open the
score and chalk .up the only counter
the Brussels veterans got durinng
the match. A few moments later
Cleary, star inside right wing for
the Irishmen drifted, a fast shot
into the Brussels twine to put the
teams on an even footing, .Before
the end of the half, John O'Connor,
who shared scoring honors with
Cleary, had put St. •Colunvban one
goal ahead.
In the second halt Sullivan, Cleary
and O'Connor scored! a goal each,
