Agriculture Department bureau of home economics hes com- pleted a two-year study of 'why mothers find it so difficult to buy clothing for their children that will fit them. Results of the survey, among 150,000 children by far the most comprehensive ever wade, were made available to clothing manu- facturers by Miss Ruth: O'Brien of the bureau. It may result in exten- sive changes in the manufacture of children's clothing, she said. Three Alternatives Miss O'Brien recommended' that the old-style practice of .peaking clothes' on, the basis of age be dia. carded) in, favor of any of three groups of two measurements: 1—Height and weight; 2—height and girth of hips; of (3- height and girth of chest, '"'Analysis of the measurement figures show d.etindtely that age Is a poor indicator of size" Miss O'- Brien said. "So'me children axe 'small for their age,' ",For instance," she said, "one of our measurement size groups may be boys, weighing from 81 to 91 Pounds' and 58 to 60 inches in height.
