T'HEl choice of camera position can 1 make or break a picture for it is an all-important factor in obtaining proper emphasis. A study of current picture magazines will show that the successful pictures have been planned and executed from a par- ticular point of view—from the high camera position looking down on the subject to the shooting angle looking up at the main object in the photograph. The picture above, for instance, ' owes a great deal to the low shoot- ing angle, which emphasizes the breezy quality of the day and the natural pose o1 the girl. The low camera position also made possible the use of a neutral sky background and brought the flowers into more prominence. One note of warning is necessary in making low -angle shots of people. Do not get so close that the upward tilt makes the lower part of the body (closest to the camera) of exaggerated size in com- parison to the upper portion which 10 farthest from the camera. Such distortion, if allowed to get out of control, can ruin an otherwise bean., tlflll picture, Watch the image in the Viewfinder add you will soon be able to make the necessary adjust - Monts. This is the type of home picture that a Serviceman overseas would treasure. The natural pose and ac- tion tell a complete story. Choose your locale and 'have the camera position in mind before the model begins her work. Make any ad- justments for exposure and then rehearse the action. Notice the rock upon which this girl .is standing. All that was necessary in making the picture was to tell her to walk into the picture as far as the rock, pause and look back over her shoulder as if talking to someone. Worry about self-conscious handling of feet and hands didn't bother this photogra- pher for the natural action took care of that, The country theme was car- ried out further by having the girl hold a bouquet of wild flowers. Note that the exposure was fast enough to stop the blowing of the skirt, which adds to the feeling of arrested motion. Excellent judgment was used in making this exposure with a medium yellow filter, It darkened the tone of the Sky and allowed the registra- tion of tonal values between the blue Of the sky grid the white of the dress, Strive for realism and natilralnesa in your pictures by planning the camera angios in advance, its John van Guilder THE BRUSSELS POST Wednesday, 341lyi ..1h. 7.945 "alit rideffh: Even a piggy -bank sometimes requires expert atten- tion. Prest, Manager plore, When picnickers happen upon what seems to be an ideal spot its an open space by the shores of a wooded lake, their first thought should be of the possible presence of poison ivy, Some people are immune to its poison some of the time, but all people are not exempt from in- fection all the time. Poisoning is the result of contact with any part of the plant—leaves, flower, and roots—or from clothing, boots and tools that have the oily juice of the ivy on them. The initial stage of poisoning is a mill itchy sensation, followed by the development of blisters which on ba;ealting become painful oozing sores.- The treatment is to wash thnnonghly with strong laundry soap in running water as soon as possible after suspected contact, Use plenty of soap. BY washing immediately before the oil of the ivy has time to penetrate the skin poisoning may be avoided, Other- wise, when the irritation becomes apparent, medical aid should be obtained as soon as possible. Buy War Saving Regularly — Did You Ever Wonder? How It Is Possible To Drill A Square Hole.. C. T. of. Long Beach, Calif, writes; "1 would like to know and I hotleve others would be very much inter-. ested in, just drew they drill a squat o hole." At first blush, drilling , ,lucre hole might seem to tall in the same category as the Sour -foot .yardstick and left-handed monkey wrench, However, a bit of research into the matter disclosed the fact that square lhles actually can be drilled in Miller wood or metal, Drilling a square hole in wood may he accomplished by a standard typo bit with auxiliary chisel -like blades which follow the bit irate the wood, rh'pping off the corners and extend- ing the circular hole, dug out by the bit, 1,0 form a square hole. Square holes in metal may be aril led by a .process known as the Watts method. This method involves the me of a guide plate the shape of the oale to be drilled. The guide plate is fastened over the work and a three - c rnered drill is fastened in a special floating chuck, Thi sspecial chuea. Is so contrived as to keep the axis of the drill per- pendicular to the work but at the sante time permit sufficient freedom of lateral movement to allow the concis of the triangular drill to leach the corners of the square hole and then to be retracted as the 001- 1,e rs of the drill move acro is the straight side of the hole. Either the work can be rotated, as wheu a lathe is used, or the drill can be rotated •as when a drill press is used. This method of drilling square nodes (hexagonal holes are drilled z*milarly but with a five -cornered taiI1) meets the need for eliminat- ing the strain. caused by punching or broaching square or hexagonal h,;es in critical aircraft engines and other armament parts, The Watts method results in no more strain 0) distortion of the part worked on t10.0 the drilling of ordinary rouud holes with twist drills, and the work an be done on standard lathes or r1.i11 presses. ti' k DISABLED .. asicitiy removed its Clean Sanitary Phase collect, 12 BRUSSELS W Miami, Stone Sons Limited Stretton's Electric and Supply Service DEALER FOR EASY WASHER Information on New Appliances: House and Bain Wiring, Electric Fixtures, Spartan Electric Fence.
