The rninnies were read by Mrs, George Thomson and the 'treasurer, Mrs. George Hetherington, reported a suhstan'tial balance at the end of 1944. The roll call was answered by paying member'shi'p fees for 1945. Fourteen' members responded. ,Plans for ,activities for the' new year were discussed among them the question of refreshments ler the annual congregational meeting. Mrs, G. Hetherington gave a read- ing appropriate to the season and Mrs. Aitken read an interesting let- ter received some time ago from Rev. ,Crawford Tate, a former min- ister, who died recently do Toronto. MTs. R, P. Garndss opened her home on Thursday afternoon for the regular meeting of the W.M,S. of I'nox Presbyterian Church. Tho President,. Mils. R. Elliott, opened the meeting by reading "Standing At the Portal of the Opering Year," and Mns. R. F. Garniss read the 'Mad Tidings," pprayer. Mrs. ,T. J. Elliott read the Scripture from St ,Tohn's Gospel and prayer was of- fered by Mrs. P S, MacEwen. A prayer for peace and for those in the .awned services was offered by Mfrs,. J. Cliidvers. Miss Scott was appointed key wo- rtan, along with Mrs. Chilvers, to represent the society 'on the con- n.ittee planning for observance or the World's Day of Prayer. Miss Florence Fowler gave a New tear's, reading on the motto: "Look up ant not clown: look forward not backward;i" look out and not in; lencl a hand." Miss Olive Scott read a paper entitled "Real Religion, prepared by Miss Barbara Thyam: of Woodrow, Sask., a iormer mem, her of the society. Miss Isobel McEwen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John L. MacEwen of Turnberry and a student at the Normal School, Stratford, is teach- ing g at the Bluevale school this wselt, Howard Naedyed, Molesworth, a student, conducted the service in Knox Presbyterian Church on Sun day morning. He spoke from Isaiah 52;12, liis 'su'bj'ect being, "The Van guard and the Rearguard." He spoke' of life as a battle with Christ going before and following after. At the United Chnmch Rev. J, W. Johnson occupied the pulpit and conducted Communion service. • He preached from the text, "All things work together for good to thein that love God."
