Letter From Soldier
In #'ibraltar
The following is a letter to Mr.
and Mrs. Stanley Machan from their
sort F, Sgt. Willis Meehan, now
stationed at Gibraltar:
Tuesday, Aug. 17
Dear Folks:—
As you can see by my address, I'm
farther away from home than ever—
in the land of eternal sunshine, no
less.
Lt's very nice down here, lots of
swimming and everybody goes
around h shorts, and very little
else. I was in the sealast night
and again to -night and its really
lovely as you can float around like a
cork.
This won't he much of a letter
I'nm afraid as there isn't muoh I can
say from here, .
Corning clown in the plane we had
two big bags of mail which kept I
getting in my way till I was tempted
to throw the stuff out, when they
,et it sorted here was a big bunch er
letters for ne—two of them from I
you at 11001e.
1.'ve met some of the guys down
here that I knew at Guelph so its
like .1'd times again. John is sitting
here playing cribbage with Tony
and some other guys. I bad a
letter from Dunc. McKay and one
from Mary McIntosh with two
snaps of Dorothy's wedding en-
closed.
We can get over into Spain from
here, but it takes about a month to
get a passport and permission from
the right people. We'll have lots of
time for that though. There is a
town here on the rock with crooked
narrow streets and little donkeys
trotting around with carts about
ihiec times as high as they are. and
a lot of people drive big American
caws. The lights are all on here at
night so it's quite a bit different
from England. Also you can get
any kind of fruit you could wish for,'
grapes, lemons, oranges, bananas,
water melon ,etc. So you see it has
it's good points. T•neryone here
is nearly black from the stns and
urine is coming along ane.
Happy birthday Dad, on the 21st
and many Happy returns. John's
clad has a birthday on the 21st too.
Hoping this finds you all well, and
not working too bard, I'm in the
pink of condition and never felt
better.
Lots of love to you all
Willis
