GIFT BOXES FOR THOSE
IN UNIFORM
Bella Homemakers High time to
° plan your 'Chris'tmas gift boxes far
those in uniform . on the land ,
on the seta ... in the air. You may
also be thinking of the families of
the men Is the armed forces and, too,
of the folks inthe hooses of indomit-
able Britain who so cheerily "make
do'
Dining the next three weeks such
gnegt numbers of parcels will be
going through the mails that it is
important to pack your boxes so as
to speed up deliveries and make
sure your parcels will travel well.
Here, are some suggestions:
1. First of all, choose a stout box—
preferably of the •carton type
which conhbines lightness w:ih
strength.
2. Packing or usher liiahn'g is neces-
sary for a light weight box, such
as 'corrugated cardboard. Oat -
ton -batting oa' sacks pushed along
the sides and into the chinks can
be used. Little packages of rai-
sins or something that will not melt
may be used as fillers.
3. Contents. Foods should be wrap-
1>:
ped separately and labelled so
tliat the recipient may undo
things as they are wanted. We
suggest bating the fruit loaf in
cocoa 'tins then cooled put the
lid on and yon have fruit loaf
and container ready. Cookies
carry well when pecked in bak-
ing -powder tins with wax paper.
Tihere are also many acceptable
packaged goods aatlala as powdered
milk and' eggs, cocoa, soups, etc.
4. Fit everything into the. box as
Closely 'together es possible.
Close the box. tie -firmly with
twine and put on one set of ad-
dress and declaration labels, just
as though the box were not going
to.be wrapped.
5. Then cover the box with factory
cotton, (say, a washed flour bag),
fait the ends like the beck of an
envelope, and stitch, using than,
strong twine in darning needle.
Tie the box firmly again and put
on a 'seclonld set of labels. It is
much better to put on an alter-
native address than, a return ad-
dress — a civilian relative or
friend in the old country may be
vaned on the overseas label.
0. Check on the rates with your
pashanieter (overeeahe boxer np
Lo 11 lbs. cost 12ir per lb.). It Is
advisable not to pack the maxi -
0000 weight. Remember, civi-
lian rates are d'iffer'ent and Cor -
tato gifts may be, an the duit'able

Be sure to pend only what is need-
-- as shipping space Is precious.

PIIS year will be a difficult one for your friend, the Duro Dealer.
ii Ike is not able to supply the demand for Duro Pumps because
present stocks are limited and shortage of materials curtails produc-
tion. Besides, our factory facilities have been diverted to a great
extent to war production.
Your Duro Dealer may be able to supply a few Duro Pumps to
those whose farm production can be increased with running water
«— but he will be mainly interested in servicing pumps now in use
to keep them in the best possible running condition.
Remember that your Duro Pump brings water, under pressure,
right into your kitchen, bathroom, laun-
dam* and barns. It saves many steps, much
times and energy. Deep it in good condi-
tion by having your Duro Dealer check it
over and replace worn parts. He will
gladly estimate the cost of putting it into
first class condition.
