SPECIAL SUGAR PROVISIONS
FOR THRESHING TIME
Special provision has been made
by the ,sugar ration division of the
Wartime Prices and Trade Board to
provide extra sugar for farmers
wives during the threshing season,
according t0 anannouncement
made 'by W, 1Jarold McPhillips,
Prices and Supply Representative of
the Western Ontario Region of the
Board.
"It is recognized that a problem
will confront the farmers' wives this
summer ancb fall in providing pies,
cakes and other Sugar -containing
foods for threshing units who will
visit the farms fora day or for soy -
oral days to handle the cereal crops
"Special provision has been made
to meet this problem. The farmer's
wife will know from experience up•
proximately how many men will
compose the thresher unit and how
long it will remain on the farm, and
therefore, how much sugar she
will require. She shall apply in good
time to the ration officer of the
Board located is London and Wind-
sor for a special purchase.
"Persons, making application for
the special sugar permit should state
how many men are expected to be
included in the threshing unit; how
long they will remain; how many
heals will be served and what quan•
tity of sugar is expected to be used.
"This permit should be presented
to the grocer or other smppiter and
will be this authority to sell this
exact amount to the purchaser fo.'

enemy. Fight by preventing
fires.
Prohibit smoking in or near
your barns. Avoid carrying loose matches. Keep your
lightning rods in proper repair. Don't tamper with
electric wiring.
Threshing multiplies the danger. Use a water spray
at the base of the blower. Allow no matches, loose
or in boxes, to be carried by any engaged in the Job.
Set the engine or tractor well away from straw or
other readily combustible material. Keep a barrel
of water handy to both the engine and blower.
Remember that your farm buildings are today next
to impossible to replace. Safeguard your- home,
your barns and other buildings with every possible
safety measure, and -
