Three speedsters get away to a good start. They have not opened the throttles yet, as they fare
' disqualification if the craft goes past the starting buoy before the gun.
A mobile 'crane took care of the heavy work of launching and
taking the speed boats out of the lake. The crane is equipment
of the Department of Highways.

The boat races were not the only attraction. The two pretty
mermaids above, who are summer residents of Bancroft entered
the girls' one-quarter mile swimming race. Left to right are
Shirley Howes and Shirley Robertson. They placed first and
second respectively.
