R. About forty fellow employees of the C. N. R. assembled at the Wing - ham Station on Friday evening and in a body went to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Elliott to take them completely by surprise. The special occasion was to honour Mr. Elliott on his retirement from the C.N.R. in June, after thirty-five years service, Mr. Cliff Buschlen, foreman at Brussels, and who commenced his track work with Alex in Durham at the age of 17, acted as chalrman, and called on the Roadmaster, I(r, Davey of Stratford to read the ad- dress, Mr, Elliott was presented with a beautiful easy chair and 24rs. Elliott with a silver rose bowl and bouquet. The men all spoke a few words ex- pressing the high esteem in which Alex was held and wishing him and Airs, Elliott the very best for the future.
