also two sisters Mary Smith of Lon-
don, Mrs. Walter Mills of East
Coullie, Alta; two brothers Robert
of Vancouver, B, C., and George of
Regina, Sask,

put in Victoria Park at such a small
figure namely $3000. was because
all the material was donated at
wholesiale prices all the electrical
supplies by H. B. Stretton and lum-
ber by D. N. McDonald & Co, All
the labour was donated free by the

Transfered To Whitby
Mr, W. A. Porter, who has been
manager of the Canadian Bank of
Commerce, Brussels, for the past
four years is being moved to Whitby,

some time in September.
Mr, Porter came to 13rueaels from
Ayr four years ago on August 1st.
Regret that he is to be moved
from Brussels, is expressed by 03m'.
Porter, who has been active in church
and ronrnrunity affairs. He is an
enthusiastic member of the ]atoms
Club, He attended Melville Church
where Mrs. Porter and their
daughter Joyce, who this year
graduated from Toronto University
with a B. A. degree, have been
members of the choir.
The Porter family will be tnisserl
by their many friends and business
acquaintances here.
F. Walton Todd, accountant with
the Bank of Commerce at Strath•
soy for the past seven years, has
been promoted to the position of
manager at Brussels, He takes over
leis new duties the end of August.
He has been 'prominent in the
work of. the United Chalet at
Strathroy. He was an active mem-
her of the Strethroy Liens Club and
president of the Srathroy Golf Club
in 1947-40. Mr. Todd is married with
two children.
Thomas McDonald, Grey Farmer
Dies of Injuries Received
Thomas McDonald, 50, Grey town•
ship farmer, received critical in-
juries when two trucks collided at a
ramal intersection near Molesworth,
in the late afternoon of August 3rd.
Mm•, McDonald died that evening in
Listowel Hospital where he was
taken following the accident, suf-
fering (eons severe concussion. 'head
laceration and a fractured jaw,
Two other men, riding in the Mc-
Donald truck, ware injured, and
were removed to Listowel hospital,
Bert Young, 44, Mount Forest, severe
scalp lacerations, concussion and
undetermined chest and knee in-
juries and Arthur McWaters, of Conn,
suffering from shock and laceration
over the left eye.
Driver of the other truck escaped
without. injury,

Bridge Damaged
Quickly Repaired
Traffic had to he detoured around
the Turnberry Street bridge ju Linde -
eels from late Wednesday night un-
til fate 'I'.hursday afternoon when
rt pairs were completed.
A car dirven by G. Shlell's crashed
into the side of the bridge -Wednes-
day night causing a portion of the
floor to sink.
Repairs were under way Thurs-
day under the direction of County
road superintendent, J. Snell.
Melville Church Service
Rev. Sit. Fesgusen-of Ilensall, oc-
cupied the pulpit of Melville Chnoch,
Sunday morning. Ile took for his
text .Tno. 21-5. Jesus ministry, let
clown your net on the right sine and
• seek divine power, and a regenerat-
ion of our lives, it was a most timely
message. Mr. Gibson Willis sang a
well rendered solo.
Mr. Dan Huether
On Wednesday, August 2nd, Dan
Huether passed away suddenly at his
hone at Cranbrook. in his 71st year.
The funeral service was conducted
by Rev. Alex Simpson from his late
home on Friday. August 4th at 2
o'clock.
He was a son of the late George
Hnether and Caroline Eckmier anu
was horn on the 16th Concession of
Grey Township.
He was a lifelong resident of
Cranbrook, and was a member of
GIP Presbyterian Church.
He leaves to mourn, his wife the
former Ethel Stradhan; three daugh-
ters Mrs. Adrian McTaggart (Marie)
Brussels. Airs. Lyle Evans (Evelyn)
of Kitchener; Mrs. David Miller
(Dorothy) of Timmins; two sons
Glen and Murray of Cranthrook and
ten grancicitildren; also a brother
William of St. Marys; a sister Mrs,
Mittieholtz (Mary) of Walkerton; a
sister Emma, MTs. Young of Strat-
ford.
Two sisters and a brother pre-
deceased him, Margaret, Mrs. Chas.
Lamont (Lizzie) and Jack. A brother
Christian has not been heard from
for several years.
Pallbearers were : Howard and
Stanely Strachan, Melville Lamont,
John Schnook, Blair McIntosh and
Lloyd Michel.
Flower hearers were : Ray and
Donald Huether, Roger Strachan, Mac
Davidson, Clarence Eliigson, Sandra
Evans and Dale McTaggart.
Interment was made in Cranbrook
Cemetery.
Library Notes

August 21 to Sept. 4th inclusive,
while the librarian is on vacation.
