SHUT-IN'S DAY
SUNDAY, JUNE 4th, 1950
A Day Twice Blest
Awe-inspiring and well-nigh un-
believable are the victories that faith
can win. Afflicted men and women
lento anli co-operate with the in-
evitable, and we who are well feel
like walking on tiptoe in their
presence. They do not achieve a
successful adjustment easily, how-
ever, and sometimes it is the real.
tuition that they are not forgotten,
and that they will have a large place
—perhaps a larger place than ever
—in the affection of their friends,
that tips the scales in their favour.
When, therefore, we remember,
and call, we are contributing to the
most gallant victories that are being
won anywhere.
Shut-in's Day summons ns to this
Christlike ministry on one particular
day, and that in itself is good; it
should also remind 118 that there
might well be many "Shut-in's Days"
in the course of a year.
BM let us he under no misap-
prehension. While shut-ins are greatly
helped by our solicitude, they also
Mire much to give. Few would
choose a sickroom or a wheel chair
as a plane from which to enrich the
lives of others. Yet many so con-
fined accomplish exactly that, Vis -
tors see before their eyes what
ronrage and faith can do; in the
presence of afflintions bravely borne,
they feel themselves silently rebuked
for their own grumbling over trifles;
they find themselves strangely ex-
alted before the greatness of the
human spirit.
Shnt-in's Day, then, is twice blest.
"Tt biesseth him that gives and him
that takes." Go to your nick friend
out of a sense of obligation—you will
come away feeling that yon have.
bestowed, and that. your "duty"
lugs become a privilege,
Rev. Allen R. Holland, Westminster
Church, Winnipeg.
