was, "The Supreme Need of the
Church;" that is the assusanee of

School Children Contribute
To Manitoba Flood Relief Fund
The flood waters of the Red river
are receding but are leaving be-
hind them a vast scene of devastat-
ion, Even those homes which with-
stood the surge of waters, and were
not twisted from their foundations,
are a heartbreaking picture of ruin.
Plaster has fallen and the interior
and furnishings of thousands of
homes that were Inundated will be
covered with all maners of filth,
The subsiding waters have lett a
deposit of silt that will have pene-
trated furniture, rugs, •draperies etc.
Furniture will fall apart. In many
eases everything will be completely
ruined. It is to this that people will
have to return to start over. Can we
possibly picture their dismay and
discouragement? It will doubtless
seem a well nigh impossible task
they have before them. Many of
these peole are veterans of the last
war and all they have is invested in
what is now the wreckage of their
homes.
It is of ns, the more fortunate
people of Canada, that the Flood
Relief Commitfee have unashamedly
asked help for those who have suf-
fered such tremendous loss. The
money will go directly to those who
need it most for the re-0urnishing of
their homes and to help replace the
things needed for them to begin
again.
So far the response of this com-
munity to the appeal made in the
colums of the paper last week has
h'een disappointingly small. Thanks
to those who did respond. Special
thanks is due to the children of
Cranbrook school who have set an
example for all to follow,
