Duncan McNab
Duncan MoNab died in the Strat-
ford General Hospital on Monday,
April 24th in his 82nd year, He had
been a patient in hospital for the
past five months For the past 20
years he made his home with his
brother William, at Lot 20, Con. 2,
North Hasthope township, He was
born in McKillop township, a son
of the late William McNab and Janet
Stewart on April 10th, 1869, For 25 t
years he farmed on the 14th Con-
cession of Grey township, retiring t
20 years ago. He married the !
former Mary Knipe of Monkton, 1
who predeceased him in. 1930. He
was a member of the Presbyterian
faith, and a Liberal in politics. Sur-
viving are two two brothers, William
of Brunner and John, Reeve of Grey
Twee, Funeral "was held on Thurs-
day fa'om the Greenrwood-Gilbert
Funeral Home, service being con-
ducted, by Jelin Martin of Hawkes -
Pallbearers -were Hugh Cam-
eron, Stratford, Martine and Ken-
neth MacDonald, Cranbrook; Mur-
ray McNab, North Eaethope; Stewart
MoNab, Shakespeare, and Robert
Stewart, Brunner. 'Phe body was
taken to Cranbrookt Cemetery for
burial.

A card party was held in the

Cub committee, There was not as
large n crowd present as the cause
warranted hurt a number of tickets
had been enld previously. Prizes for
the winners of the most games were
won by Mrs. D. McLeod and Mr.
Dean Davidson, Consolation prizes
went to Mrs. M. Wineberg and John
Stiles. Lunch was served by the
committee in charge, Proceeds are
to be used to send the local cubs and
scouts to camp this summer,

at the preceding Open Nights.

the new Agriculture Room will be

In the Annex, the Shop and Horne
Economics Rooms will he busy with
pupils doing some of the work they

pieces of work in wood, metal, and
clothines including some work rem -
piked in the adult evening classes
held last winter.

will he open for inspection, with
samples of students.' work displayed.

atic Chub are presenting a one -act
play "High School Daze" twice
during the evening, once at 8.30 and
again at 9.30 in the Recreation Room.
All parents and others interested
in secondary education are invited
to come to the School on Friday
evening to see the displays of work
and the amateur dramatics, and to
meet and talk with the Board mem-
hers, Principal and the teachers, A
special invitation le Offered to par-
ents of pupils in Grade ViII this year.
They will have an opportunity of
seeing just what their boys and
girls will be doing when they enter
Grade TN', and the Principal will he
glad to disease the work of Grade IX

finals held In the Winghaul town
Lail Friday night attracted a 990a -
city audience. Over 200 contestants

The May meeting of the Women's
Missionary Society of Melville
Church was 'held on Friday after-
noon. The meeting was opened by
repenting the wards of Hymn 397
and prayer by Miss Gi'err Stewart,

sented by JTra. Wm. Smith, who told
of the great growth of religion and
the re -building of churches and

have charge of the June meeting
to which all the ladies are invited.

Dr, Jellinek is head of the school
for 090121es in alcohol at Yale Univer-
sity. After thoroulgh investigation he
reports that there are fewer alcohol-
ics in rural than in urban areas. The
rate of chronic alcoholism in eitiea
of 100,000 or more' is higher by 33.7
per cent than in smaller towns nal
cities and higher by 105 per cent
than in rural areas. Dr. Jellinek con-
eludes' Ithat the greater the numbers
of outlets for drinking the more
,people will drink. The Huron Temp-
perance Federation has always main•
talned that to Increase the outlets
is to Increase the som-
sumption and the alcoholism.
Huron County is fortunate that it is
' a county of smaller towns and rural
arras, It 45 aiso fortunate that it is
antler the Canada Temperance Act,
that does not provide for liquor out-
lets.

Friendship Circle
A very enthusiastic meeting was
held at the home of Mrs. G. Martin
on May 3rd. Twenty-five members
were present and many guests
joined the Circle,
After the devotional service and
the reading of the Secretarys and
the Treasurers Reports. Mrs, C.
leusehlin gave a much enjoyed topic.
Freddie Stephenson accompanied by
Mrs. D. Stephenson favoured the
group with a salo and a duet "Where
Hp Leeds Ole-." The text from
"Growing With The Years" was then
read by Mrs. C. Bryans and the
meeting closed with the Mizaph

Miss Pearl Baeker conducted a
very good musical contest after which
the ladies in charge served a tasty
lunch.
Mrs, Isabella Cole
An old e-ateemeri resident of this
community In the. person of Mrs.
Isabella Cele passed away on Friday,
May 5th, in her 92nd year, at the
home of her daughter, Mrs, James
Miohie 5th line Morris. She was
born in Ettrick, Selkirkshire, Scot
land In the year 1858 and came to
Canada at the nee of 12, residing in
Morris Twp., until moving to Blyth
1n 1020, Her husband predeceased
her in 1922. She is em-vived by 2
brothers, Alex of North Branch,
