BLUEVALE
Fire of uncertain origin almost
destroyed the frame dwelling house
of Mr. and Mrs, Eddie Wadd•el, at
the south end of this village, about
1;00 o'clock on Friday. Mrs. Wad-
dell , two small children and a
baby were in the house at the time.
The fire brigade from Wingham
was summoned and made the trip
to Biuevale, a distance of four
miles, in seven minutes. The fire
was confined to the living room,
where walls, ceiling, curtains, and
furniture were badly damaged by
smoke and water. There was a
strong wind blowing at the time
but Mrs. Waddell :had :presence of
mind to keep the door closed, pre-
venting a draft,
World Day of Prayer
About 30 women gathered et the
United Church for the World Day of
Prayer service. The first .portion of
the program was conducted by Mrs.
I. A. Burden, president of the W. M.
S., of the United Church; and Mrs.
J. J. Elliott, presildent •of the Pres-
byterian W. M.S., acted. as leader
for the remainen,g portion of the
meeting, Prayers were offered' by
Mrs, R. J. MoMurray, Mrs, Spar -
ling Johnston, Mrs. Raymond El-
liott, Mrs. George Thornton, Mrs.
Barry Elliott, and Mrs, Stanley
Darling. Rev, J. A. Burden intro-
duced the guest speaker, Rev, C. H.
MacDonalcl, D. D., and welcomed
lvim to the ohernit, the oo-nmuntly,
end the service, Dr. MacDonald
spoke on 'What Yotir Money- Does.”

tendance of relat6ves and friends. Mr.
Moffatt was 90 gears of age a,nd ;rad
lived in this d:eetrfot, during his en-
tire lite. The service was conducted
by 'Rev. Dr. C. 11, MacDonald, Min-
ister of Knox Presbyterean Church,
Bitten/ale, Mr. Moffatt was a mem-
ber of that church ter Puny years,
The pall -bearers were Stanley
Moffatt, Gordon Messer, Harvey
Robertson, J. C. Higgins, Raymond
Elliott and A. D. Smith, The beau-
tiful floral tributes were carried by
Joan Mundell and Eldred Nichol.
Interment was in Wroxeter ceme-
tery. Relatives attending the fun-
eral included Mr. Moffattt's daugh-
ter. Mri•s. Edith Sanderson, London,
and his son, 0, B. Moffatt of Inger-
soll. Three sons, Russell of Boor-
ianiagdce, Que.; John of Calgary,
Alta., and James of Fairview, Alta.,
were unable to be present,

At the regular Sunday morning
service the Minister, Rev. A. J.
Simpson, occupied the pulpit speak-
ing on "Jesus Christ, the great Phy-
sician." The choir contributed the
anthem, "0, what a Wonderful Sav-
ior," by Ackley.
The World Day of Prayer service
was observed in Knox Church. on
Friday afternoon with a small a.t-
tendanoe because of cold and stormy
weather, The president of the W.
M. S., Mrs, Dan Huether, presided
for the first part and Mrs. Stanley
Cem nbeli, president of the 'Young
Women's Auxiliary was in charge of
the remainder of the program. Pray-
ers were given by several members
of the Young Womenes Aux„ and
Mrs, Robert C. Campbell gave a
splendid paper on "Prayer."
Mrs, Clara. Omatead is at present
in St. Thomas, where she under-
went an operation last week.

Women's Guild of
Melville Church
The regulary monthly meeting of the
Women's Guild of Melvije Church
was held in the Primary Room on
Tuesday evening, Feb. 21. Mrs. Geo.
Galbraith presided over the business
meeting.
The roll call was answered by read-
ing a verse from the Psalms, Three
"Thank You" notes were read from
members who had been ill, and
Mrs. Winifred Edgar was appointed
assistant to the Sunshine Fund Con-
venor, Mrs, Alvin Logan,
Mrs, Joe Martin and Mra. Sam
Sweeney were appointed a committee
to look into the matter of providing
a waterproof covering for the fiat
surfaces around the sinks in the
church kitchen.
The devotional period was in charge
of Mrs. Bob Gemmel and Mrs, Hartley
Fischer. Mrs. George Elliott sang,
"The Twenty-third Psalm," accom-
panied at the piano by Mrs, Orrle
Elliott. Mrs, Miilne read a paper
tracing the history of the Psalms
through the centuries.
During the social hour contests
were conducted by Mrs, Goerge Gal-
braith, Mrs, Hartley Blather, and
Mrs. Harold Cardiff; Mrs, Hartley
Fischer also gave a humon.rous read-
ing and Mrs, George Milne pre-
sented a n •entertaining skit, after
which lunch was served by the com-
mittee in charge of the evening.
