Served As Market Too
During his introductory remarks,
Reeive Cousins traced a concise his.
tory of the Brussels. Town Hall. It
was bnlit lin 1872, with a pian nam-
ed Thompson as the builder and
John Leckie as the reeve at the
time. When it was built it was In-

market as well as a hall. The mar-

was used as such for some time.
Some of our older residents still
remember when three butchers
brought their cuts of meeats to be
displayed and sold on this, location.
Farmer's wives brought their
homemade butter, head -cheese,
homemade sausages, to be bartered
over the counters.
In 1876, a diiaasitrons fire swept
the village, and destroyed moat of
it but the Town Hall was left,
