Women's, Gulkl was held on Tuesday,
Feb. lett, in the easement of the
IChurch with good ,attendance. The
'meeting opened with the singing of
a hymn, "Through all. the changing
scenes of ,Life." Mrs. Rev, Kerr
led the prayer service and Mrs. H.
Bryanegad the lesson. Minutes of
the previousmeeting were given by
the secretary Mrs. Wm. Fischer, and
were adopted. Dues and extra cent -
a -clay were collected, The President
Mrs. G. Davis took over the business
period, which included the planning
of the Pancake supper to be heldd on
Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 21st in the
basement of St. John's Church. The
date of the monthly meeting was
changed from the 2nd Tuesday to
the end Wednesday. Mrs. Kerr close
ed the meeting with prayer and a
dainty tea was served by Mrs. John
Fischer and Mrs. Wm. Fischer. A
hearty vote of thanks was given the
two hostesses.

There passed away in Grey Twee,
on Feb. 3rd, Robert Douglas Shiels,
He was a son of the late John Shiels
and Jessie MoNalr pioneer residents
of. Grey Twp., and, was a lifelong
resident of the CommunitY, being
born on the family homestead Lot 19,
Concession 14 on Feb. 2retle 1871.
He was a Prebyterian, in religion
and a staunch Liberal in Pot:talcs.
Funeral services were held on Mon-
day. Feb. 6t1t, by Rev. A. J. Simpson,
• minister of Onanbrook Presbyterian
Church. The Pallbearers were:

fred, Knight,, Alex Steles, ,SteWart

orical research. She chose as her
topic a detailed account of the town's
recently installed water works. Sun-
shine, collection was then taken. It
was decided for the Ingtitete to serve

town hall in the neat future. Mrs. J.
Bryan and Mrs. S. Wheeler were
appointed for a nominabing com-
mittee to eppoint, a new slate, of offi-
cers for 1950. The following hostess
Mns. H. Shamtle, Mrs. W. Rose, Mrs.
7. Speir, Mrs, Dr. Stephens and Mrs.
H. Speir seated all the greets at
tables well laden with old time whole-
some foods. Pancakes with honey or
brown sugar, Scones with strawberry
jam and cheese and delicions, oatmeal
cookies, topped off with conversation-
al and peppermint losengers, Mrs, H.
Spelr headed' the grandmothers table
en,d did the honours of pouring tea.
The entire committee deserve much

After a lengthy discussion, and
following the hearing of a delegation
from the Morris Township Connie
the following resolution was passed,
"That the Brussels Fire Dept. be
authorized to ,answer reasonable Fire
Calls in the Township of Morris, and
that the rates charged for Fire Ser-
vice be fifty (950.00) per call for the
fiest hoer and $50,00 (fifty dollams
ler each additional hour's service.
This rate to include the Fire Truck
and pumper with five men." .

It Was felt that if the Brussels Fire
Dept. and Village needed extra hose to
furnish this service and still provide
ample protection in the Village, the
Morris Township should help to Per -
chase the fire hose.
