Motorist Poll Shows Speed, Cutting In, Worst Offence To find out how much the average delver knows •about avoiding traffic accidents, the Department of High ways has been conducting a public ARTICLES WANTED— - opinion poll among drivers. One fact stands out : the Public and the experts are agreed that excessive speed it the most danger - out action that drivers indulge in. The poll asps the question : "Which of the following bad driving prac- tices, in your opinion, is the worst?" In •the results, "Excessive Speed" headed the list. of sic had driving faults, with 41% of the votes, 17% more than any other single. fault. This checks with official pro- vincial accident statistics for last year, which show "speed too fast for read or traffic conditions" as an accident factor one third more often than any other reported violation. j On the other hand, the p011 shows the experts that the public is not as concerned as it should be about another dangerous: tfriving practice,. driving on the wrong side of the, road. July 8, 1949 there pass- ed peacefully away. in the Memorial Hospital. one of Listowel's highly respected citizens, in the person of John S. Sperling. The deceased was horn in Blansltard Township on May 17th, 1808. When a child, he moved with his family, to Howick. Township where he reslded until the fall of 1946, when he retired in Lastowel. in June of 1900 he married Agnes Harding of Fordevich, who prede , ceased him twenty-three yeare ago.; Mr. Sperling was a life-long member , of the Gorrie Methodic, now 'United' Chm'ch, and was taithfnl in the • attendance of Divine service. Tie leaves to mourn his loss one daughter (Lida) Mrs. Wm, Balfour . of Listowel, and two sons, Peroy of Sault Ste. Marie end Everett of Listowel, now of Harrieton; also three brothers, Richard and Albert ; of Vancouver, B.C. and Harvey of • Gorrie and one sister Airs. Ed. Johnston of Bluevale. A sister, Mrs. Wm.
