Recipient Of Yoke And Shoe
Used On Oxen
In Eastern Canada
Dr. Jas, Anderson, Veterinary, was
the'1'ecipient of a Oxen yoke and
shoe brought home last week from
New 'Brunswick by Jack Thymic. It
is unique in so far as being unlike
the ones having been need here.
abouts In the old days. With _ this
yoke the oxen do the pulling with
their foreheads, the heavy wooden
bar lays across the Shoulders of the
team and a. heavy leather strap runs
over the forehead thence through the
wooden bar. The bar is made of
hard wood- and nicely curved and
elaborately carved and kept polished.
The shoe 45 made in two pieces each
caulked like a horseshoe end the
same nails are used. The process
of shoeing an ox is quite different
from that of shoeing a horse as they
are usually shoed in a standing
poeltien but an ox is suspended to
the ceiling and left hanging in mid-
air during the procedure,
The Easterners take as ni',ch pride
in their oxen as Westerners do with
