was named convenor of a program
committee. Hostesses for the meet-
ing were Mrs, P.W. Todd, Mrs. Wm.
Miller, Mrs. Charles Davis, and Mrs.
Archie Engel,
MAJESTIC WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
Mrs. Meurig Thomas of Walton
was the guest speaker at n meeting
of Brussels Majestic Women's In-
stttute held on TJtursday afternoon
With a group of her own oil paint -
Inge as sonnies, she gave the
groap an interesting new conven-
tion of the art of painting. Con -
tray to the general Meas, she said,
color is only one thing and a rather
unimportant one. To the artist. a
picture must not necessarily have
conventional beauty or color, but
is a study in light and dark or sun-
shine and shadow. She took her
audience nn an imaginary trip a. -
round
-round Brussels and showed several
paintings of the sections she visit-
ed,
Mrs. Thomas. who has travelled
and painted in Italy, Germany
France. England, Scotland, and
Canada, said there are pictures
everywhere and that a successful
artist must put his personality into
his picture. She. enoouraged her
audience to "open your eyes wide to
get some of the beauty, music and
poetry out of the work."
Mrs. Carl Hemingway, congener
of oitizenshtp and education, in-
troduced the speaker, and Mrs. W.
Bell expressed the gratitude of the
branoh of her talk. Little Laurel
Heroin ,way presented Mrs. Thomas
with a gift.
Mrs, W. H. 13.e11, president of the
branch, was in ,charge of the Meet-
ing.
