We feel so strongly about the
possibilities of trading with Bri-
tain that we have to' emphasize
again the necessity for Canediart
farm organizations to go into
the selling, business on a nation-
al scale.
That Canadian .farmers can act
co-operatively has been proven
by the cheese producers of On-
tario when they, sold ten million
pounds of cheese to Britain, re-
portedly against the wishes of
some members of the federal
government. Selling at lower
thc-i the home price the differ-
ence was madetup by the mem-
bers of .the prov,;ilicial organiza-
tion.
This deal worked tint to the
benefit not only of the cheese
producers of the whole country
but of all branches of the dairy
indust%et3i.:"In all fairness one
group"' cannot be expected to
carry the load for all.
If Ontario would continue to
do so, it would be easy for the
other provinces to ship their
surpluses;tinto Ontario and to let
the Ontltio farmers take the

It is' reasonable. --that all par-
ticipate, in, any, such scheme; To
set up the necessary machinery
' federal legislation is needed. At •
present marketing boards estab-
lished under provincial legisla-
tion can get together and act as
a national board. No farm orga-
nization, however, has yet come
out with the demand for produc
er controlled marketing agencies
on a national basis. If anyone
has, it has escaped our attention.
Our; provincial market i n g
boards could hardly be called
"producer cohtroled" and too
little is known about their acti-
vities..
Trade For Sterling
A national Iharketingi9agency
for any given commodity, estab-
lished under a federal sbharter
upon the request of a majority
of producers of that commodity,
wouldcontrol that commodity in
all ten provinces. 'It would have
the power to remove surpluses
from the home market and sell
them anywhere in the world.
With Britain as the tradition-
al customer for Canadian food
products,• the agency ''could set
up its own offices ih London in
the seine way as Australia rend

that these importations would

One American woman, Don-

had a smashing time.

threw bottles of ink and sauce
against the walls, made a bon-
fire of the carpets, and chopped
