REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICE
HELD AT MELVILLE CHURCH
Renlembranae Day services, to this
vieinity were held in Meliville Pres-
lrsterian Church here and, at the
cenotaph afterward..
Rev. W. H. T. Fulton was in charge
of the service In the church with I..
6D, Thompson, In change of the mus-
ical service. Led by the BruSllels
Legion Pipe Band the war veterans
marched to the, church and filled the
centre section. of the auditorium.
Standards were borne by Elmer
Sellers and Elmer Young. An anthem
was sung by the choir,
Alt the cenotaph , Rev. A, Norman
Ellis took eharge of the service, .as
sifted by the president of the local
branch of the Canadian Ltagion, Ll-
oyd Workman. Wreaths were planed
for the province of Ontario, by Frank

In spite of a brisk rain that fell
during the service, a Iarge crowd
stood in respect for the soldiers
who had given their lives.
THE UNITED CHURCH
The theme of worship in the
United Church on Sunday, Nov. 15th
was, "The Loss of the Holy Spirit"
The withdrawal of God's, Spirit from
any human life was, said to be
man's supreme loss. The Bibltoal
basis of the worship theme was
found in the PSelmist's cry, "Cast
me not away from Thy presence and
take not Thy Hoy Spirit from Me",

Women's Institute members on Fri-
day night when members and their
families, gathered In the Town Hall

and introduced a short program of
plane solos by Audrey Wheeler
and Marion Hoover; a .piano duet
by Sharon and Peter Hemingway;
Marion Hoover and Ronald Lane
repeated speeches which won for
them first and second prizes in an
Institute sponsored elocution con-
test.

S. 1, Grey, community gave a dem.
one,tration of square dancing. The
girls were white blouses and gay
peasant skirts and the bays were
garbed in jeans and boldy checked
skirts. They were Joyce Miller,
Betty Alcock, - Ruth and Marion
Hemingway and Gerald Miller, Bill
and Kensth Aleo,k and Donlyn
Hemingway.
Following this eight members of
Institute did their version of a square
dance. To the violin' and piano mu-
sic of Mr, and Mrs. George Evans
and the calling of Mrs. Charles Dav-

sets. The men of the party seemed
to favor full dress writs while the
women must halve dug into great
grandma's trunk in, the attic for
their costumes.

DINNER MEETING
Members of -the Brussels and Dist.
tact Chamber of Commerce, their
wives ,and friends, enjoyed a fine
turkey dinner at Ole New American
Hotel last Tueday evening. The
enthusiastic singing, capably led by
Mr. Albert Wood, expressed every
one's enjbyment at this, we hope,
the 'first ,of similar gatherinlgs plan-
ed for the future.
Members and guests were weicons
ed by the President, Mr,^Harold
Thomas; and a fine program of
vocal and instrumental music Was
'thoroughly enjoyed. A vocal solo,
by Joan Johnston accompanied by
Doris Johnston "Daisies Won't
Tell" and "Smiles." A clarinet
end saxophone solo by Robert Ken•
nedy; a pleno duet by Doris John•
sten and Mary Dennis.
Mr. R. B. Cousins introduced the
guest sneaker for the evening, Rev.
Mr. Boggs 01 Molesnvotlt. H8 gave
a very interesting commentary on his
experiences in the Middle East dur-
ing the Second World War. It was `.
thoroughly enjoyed by all present)
and the thanks of the gathering was
expressed by Mr. D. M. ManTavieh,
During the course of the meeting
Mr. Thomas _read a tetter from Mr.
Joe Baker, .the proprietor of the
hotdl and a memiier of the Chamber,
who is confined to the Kitchener
Hospital with a serious illness. The
letter is as follows:
"Dear friends and neighbours in
the village and outside of village:
I would be glad to be with you, but
very sorry I cannot this time. Dr.
Myers promised to take me home
hint changed his mind.
I am a very sick man and he is
trying to help me and Is now pre-
paring me for an operation.
You bad a big day on Wednesday
the 11th and I was not with you to
see your beautiful parade. My dear ,
friends I miss you all.
I like the Village — my home, '
please helieve me, I was, very happy i
sitting in front in the coffee shop 1

If it is God's will that I do not
come back I know that my wife will
