CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
The annual congregational meet-
ing of the Brussels United 'Church
was held in the Sunday School room
of the Church on Wednesday even -

ante. The meeting commenced at)
6.45 with a potluck supper, after
which Rev. Lane acted as chair-,
men 'and conduoted, the business
of hearing reports and electing
officers.
Very full and encouraging reports
were beard from every department
of the Church, from the Session to
the newly organized Baby Band. A
number of responses by members
of different organizations provided
varied programme.
Mrs. E. Martin gave a very good
report of the Missionary and Main-
tenance Fundwhich showed the
allocation had been exceeded this
year.
Mr. Edwin Martin gave the Treas-
urer's report which was very en-
couraging. The general fund had
met all obligations and still had a
surplus, but the Renovation ac -
aunt, which amounted to over
5553000., still diad a small deficit.
The follow' ng officers were
elected. to Session — B. Heming-
way and W. Huggan for a term of
5 years.
F. Kitchen for a term of 2 yeses.
To Board of Stewards — M. Oil-
field, J. Mitchell and T. Strachan,
for 3 years. Carson Watson for 1.
year.
Auditors for 1952, C. Hemingway
and N. Hoover.
A vote of thanks to the Lane
Family for their fine work and co-
operation during the past year, were
expressed by R: Cousins and J.
31ryans.
The melting now adjourned and
the members of the Official Board
held a short organization meeting,
at which. committees were set up
for the year year to follow.

for non-attendance at the regular
reamer meeting on Monday of this

ntan. Lion Ray Cousins explained
the canvas to be made in the near
future In aid of the new hone for
the Blind Institute for this area
this being established in Lon-
don. Lion President Wm, Ttyrn-
bull spoke briefly welcoming the
Blyth Club. Lions George Bridge.

and Ronald Bennett were winners
of the draw.

97th BIRTHDAY
Harty Combs Brussels, celebnalted
his 96th birthday on Saturctaa , He
Bras four sons, John, Ira, William,
and Orval, all of Deloraine, Man.,
John was able to be here to cele-
brate the occasion web his father.
He lives with an only daugher, Miss
Vesta Combs. and a nephew, Meano
Jackson, He has 11 grandchildren
and eight grandchildren,
Mr. Cambs was born in Goder-
ieh Township in 1856, 12 years after
hie father and 'nether, immigrants
from Devonshire, England, had
first settled in Stanley Township.
Mr. Combs moved with his parents
in September, 1858, to Blyth, reach-
ing it by a trail through She bush.
Hs fainted there until 1832, when
he went west to work on the con-
sh'n^tion of the C. P. R. in Mani-
toba. Ater the completion of the
railroad. he homesteaded in the
Drdnritne a:stric't until 1919. when
he returned to the Blyth neiehbor-
haod. HP was married in 15555 to
C» '-11» McKay. a native of Ruth-
erlond. Sentland. wan died in Oc-
telear. 1318.
Mr. tomb, 1. an uonorary mem-
ber of the Blyth. Orange Lodge,
which he joined at the age of 17
in 1873. He clearly recalls a visit to
Brussels on the 12th of July, 1868.

Five Hundred people attended the
third annual ice carnival held in
the Belgrave arena. Featured on the
Friday evening programme were
sleeting sorts by members of the
Stratford Skating Club, a broom
bail game and the judging of cote
turned events.
