PHOTOS BY FLOOD UGUlf
Indoor pictures are easy if you use flood type lamps, two of which were
Used to make this shot, t
• VEIVBRA,Te weeks ago we went into
the matter of indoor pictures at
.light with flash bulbs, At the time
we barely mentioned flood lamps, an
alternative method. So today let's
look at this type of lighting.
In the first place, it should be
erud008(00d that flood lamps are of
two general types—those similar in
shape to an ordinary household
121112), which requires a reflector; and
the flat, wide bnibs containing built -
en reflectors. Most bulbs of these
•ypes fit any ordinary socket and
several of them may be used at once
on a circuit without overloading it.
While picture taking with flood
type lamps requires more effort
Iran shooting with flash, lamps of
t WS type are well suited for use in
-nuking interim' pictures or informal
e/nrtraits indoors. An extension cord

alny level.
For most interior work two 06
three flood type lamps are recoil],
mended. In photographing a room,
such bulbs should be arranged fairly
close to the camera. By using a
cheesecloth diffuser—far enough
from the 'bulbs to prevent scorching
--seven illumination is secured, Be'
ware of hard shadows from chair
or table legs, of reflections from
highly polished furniture or mir-
rors, and of spotty lighting which
brightens one part of the scene but
leaves another in shadow.
As ter portraiture by flood light,
there are several lighting combine -
tions which achieve good results.
The simplest of these le to place
one lamp just to one side o£ the
camera and about four feet from
your subject. The second lamp
should be placed about threo feet
freta the subject but on the oppo-
site side of the camera and far
enoigh from it so that the light
strikes the subfort et an angle of
46 degrees, 111,111 lamps should be
raised a fool or two above the level
of the cameral.
