Plan To Kill Off Menace In Lake Huron Arrangements have been made to begin a campaign of destruction against the lamprey eel in the waters of I.alte Huron, Georgian Bay and the North Channel. This parasite has become well established in the waters named and commercial fishermen are inclined to blame it for much of the decline in lake trout and other fish, The Department has information tending to show that it is at least a serious menare. The lamprey is of no economic value. while the species upon which it preys are important to the com- nr"rc'al fishermen. Half a dozen spewing sites on the North Shore will be attacked this spring during the spawning season. Special nets have been constructed to trap the eels and these will be under the supervision of an ex- perienced officer. The experiment should enable the Department to obtain valuable data on the abundance of this acguatic Aa.RA - Toronto.
