kilt will, Mayberry Gies in
Abbeville Hospital, France.
The sad intelligence was received
Thursday of Wart week by lilies. Elsie
itleyberry, Toronto, that her brother,
Sergt. \V iii., had succumbed to his in.
melee received on October 28th, pass-
ing away in Abbeville hospital,
Prance, Saturday, December 1st. His
wounds were of a very serious charac-
ter, being shot in the leg and arm and
apiece of shrapnel entered his body
below the ribs and, was removedat
the bnspital near the shoulder. The
Ulla plait! wrote that although wounds
were dangerous the patient was full of
hope and good cheer and expected to
soon reach Blighty. Lt a letter writ-
ten on Nov, loth, by the patient he
described the nature of his wounds,
it ;red the friends nut to worry and
hoped soon to get to England and then
to Canada.
Sergt. Mayberry was born in Eng -
lewd in May 1802, and came to ()amide
with his sister, hiss Elsie, 15 years
ago, their parents haying cried. After
living in Lambton Oo. and in the
West he carne to Brussels 4 years ago
and was employed by Herb. Manning,
Morris township and afterward de-
ceased worked in the Ament factory,
Brussels. He enlisted with the 71st
Battalion, November 1015, trained at
Galt, going overseas in March 1010
and to France in Augustof same year,
transferring to a trench mortar squad.
In January last he suffered slight
wounds bat was soon able to report
for duty. 3 other brothers are in
uniform in France and England—Geo.
the youngest brother, is in a munition
plant in Toronto and a sister is simil-
arly employed in England, so the
Mayberry family is surely doing their
"bit." Sergt. Mayberry was full of
life and always busy, his death is very
deeply ree,retted and sympathy ex-
tended to the relatives.
Last Sabbath evening a memorial
service was held in Brussels Methodist
church, where deceased worshipped
and was a member of the Sabbatb
School. Pulpit and altar chairs were
neatly draped in white with flags and
a photo of deceased. After kindly
references to the brave boy who gave
up his life for the Empire, Rev. Mr,
Stafford based Itis suitable address on
Acte 20 and 21, "Bat I hold not my
life ,tt account tut
me dear unto

a very hard day's work to some but
the attainment of the result ,+tis a
