You know of course that every indus- try of any importance has a .paper of its own, one to which it gives its united support by way of advertising and sub- scriptions. Those interested do this that the paper may live and conitinue to be useful to them by aggressively ad- vocating their interests. You have a paper that for over twentysix years has been looking after the interests of the farmer. Have you given it your sup- port ? If not, see that you subscribe for the Weekly Sun, 'I'orouto, the farmers business paper, from the present time to January Ist, 1919 It will cost you. only. Use of Orange Blossoms Originated With the Saracens. The Roman bridal wreath was of verbena, plucked by the bride herself, Holly wreaths were sent as tokens of congratulations, alnd wreaths of pars- ley and rue were given under a belief - that they were effectfual preservatives against evil spirits. The hawthorn was the flower which formed the wreath of Athenian brides. At the present day the bridal wreath is al- most entirely composed of orange - blossoms ona back -ground of maid- en hair fern, a sprig here and there of stephanotis blending its exquisite fragrance. The custom of using or- ange -blossoms at bridals has been traced to the Saracens, among whom the orange -blossom was regarded as a symbol of a prosperous marriage.— Family Iiearld. WOMEN WHO HAVE RIGHT TO VOTE Qualifications for Franchise at the Corn- ing Federal Election Voting privileges have come so quickly upon Canadian women that it is difficult for them. to grasp at once the full significance to their new citi- zenship, and it is feared that many women who are entitled to do so may not cast their ballots in the forth- coming election because they do not understand that they have the right to vote. Others, also, may not have studied the methods being employed to give them a place as citizens, and for these It may be explained that enumerat- ors wil call at each house, and •the question they will put is this: Are You One of These? "Are you the mother, wife, widow, daughter or sister of any- one one man r woman) who Is on active service overseas. who has died while on active service, or who has been honorably discharged from the service? "Are you over 21 years of age? Have you lived In Canada one year, and in this municipality thirty days?" If any woman can answer "Yes" to any of these, questions she is privileged to use the franchise given first in this Dominion to those women who have sacrificed their own flesh and blood in the cause of country and of freedom. Toronto, Nov, 15,' — Those dis- tricts in Ontario where the Canada Temperance Act is in effect are not sub ject to the much more stringent regu- lations of the Ontario Temperance Act, In consequence guests at a standard hotel may have in their rooms or in their possession liquor intended for their own consumption, and may, with- out fear of penalty, give liquor to an- other person. So long as they do not tratiick in alcoholic beverages they do not break the last. Mr. Justice Masten in a decision which he handed down today at Os- goode Hail, made a ruling to this ef- fect. POTATO DEALERS • MUST BE LICENSED Only Bona -fide Dealers Will be Able To Handle Tubers. In order to protect the public against speculation in the potato trade all wholesale dealers will be registered at the office .of the Food Controller and will have to take out a license to do business. Licenses will be issued only to bona -fide dealers and the latter will be required to file semi-monthly statements --showing their purchases, sales and profits. Legitimate dealers and wholesalers will have nothing to fear from the regulations, but the tak- ing of unreasonable profits between producer and consumer will not be permitted, Representatives of the Departments of Agncu u e of ' 11 r cotta New Nova a S Brunswick, Prince Edward island Quebec and Ontario, acting as an ad- visory sub -committee of the Fruit and Vegetable Committee of the Food Controller's office, were in session in Ottawa last week considering the potato situation. Edward !Maud, three mtfl- lion bushels; in Ontario, a normal crop; in Quebec, . a shortage of twit, nilhioh bushels. The' surplus is not due to a heavy crop per acre, but to a PECULIAR ANTIPATHIES. Persons Strangly Affected By Sight of Fruit or Flowers. .. ) . A case is related of a monk who would faint on seeing a rose, and who never quitted his cell at the monas- tery while that flower was blooming. Another authority tells us of how Vin- cent, the great painter, would swoon upon going suddenly into a roan where roses were blooming. Valtaid tells us of an an army officer who was frequently thrown into vio- lent convulsions by coming into con- tact with a little flower known as the pink, while the same authority tells of the case of a lady who, if present when linseed was being boiled for any purpose, would Ise seized with violent fits of coughing, swelling of the face, and partial loss of reason for the ensuing24 hours. s. Writing of these peculiar ar anti - thies anaverions, Montague remarks that he has known men of undoubt- ed courage who would much rather face a shower of cannon balls that look at an apple. In Zinmmerinann's writ- ings there is an account of a lady who could not bear to touch either silk or satin and almost faint if by accident she should happen to touch the velvety skin of a peach..—Tit-Bits.
