Mr. R I was a proficient member of the Methodist Sunday School Orchestra and will be parted with reluctantly. We wish them prosperity in their return to Bluevale. LEGISLATIVE GRANTS, — The Legisla. lative Grant has been assigned to rural schools but the money has not yet been received from the Provincial Treasury. 'Phe Superannuation fee for the full year beginning April est was deducted from the grant, but as in some cases new teachers were appointed with a different salary, a re -adjustment will be necessary later. The grants are based oo certifi- cates and salary :-2o per cent is paid on the excess of salary above $400 up 00 $6o0 ; a school with a Second Class teacher having a Permanent Certificate and experience less than 5 years receives a grant of $15 i with experience of five Years or over the grant is $25 Under similar conditions the grant for a teacher with a First Class Certificate is $25 and $4o respectively. MutaRart.—The subject of this notice, who departed this life Wednesday of last week was buried at Midland last Saturday after- noon, Rev. J. J. Elliott conducting the service. Mr. McLaren was born at Rosemount Ont„ and was the 3rd son of the late Duncan McLaren. When a comparative youth he entered mercan- tile life in Midland and coming to Brus- sels was salesman for the late A. R. Smith and was later, a partner. He went into business on his own account t0 loos and carried on a large general store business up to the time of his de- cease. For the past year his health, bad been a cause of anxiety but few antici- pated the end as near at band until quite recently. He was at the store the Monday previous to his decease.
