BIG GESS SU DESPITE
BAD WEATHER
Haat Intron Fall lair for 1917 is now
a matter of history aid resulted touch'
more satisfactorily than was thought
possible Friday morning when the
rain poured dawn. The hold this
event has upon the public Was &.Luca
sbrated by the gate receipts of over
8400 despite the unpropitious day and
the fast that many {vete afraid of the
wet and cold to venture to the
grounds.
Thursday the palace was well filled
in its various departments, consider -
and the Judges
al
consider-
ing the season ge-s hada
busy afternoon in awarding the premi-
ums to the many meritorious exhibits.
There was a big falling n8 in fruit,
usually'a well filled list and owing to
the late harvest and consequently de-
layed thrashing the display of grain
was'mueh below the average of, other
years in %,county. The ladies' depart-
ment was larger than ever and over
flawed the oustomery place.; A choice
lot of baking and dairy products: was
on hand although some of the usual
exhibitors were ,minus in the -latter.
Fine large displays of roots -and vege-
tables was made by W. A. Murray, of
Egmondville. and Jas. Jackson, Mor-
ris, who lead in this department of
the Fa -
Everyir.
preparation had been made
for Friday's outdoor display, which is
seldom outdone by the best of Fairs,
but the role played by Jupiter Mose
reduced the number of entries very
perceptibly and put the kibosh on the
speeding events, children's races and
other items of amusement on the pro-
gram as the I mile track was ton
muddy and the rain and chilly wind
proved a deterrent.
There were many fine horses, cattle,
sheep, hogs and poultry on exhibition
but the bad weather shut off the com-
ing of many,.
Despite the cool atmosphere the
Barclay children, of Loudon, gave
their National dances in excellent
style, which proved a very attractive
feature to many an unlooker. Pupils
of Brussels Continuation school put
on a May Pole fancy drill and the
Public school girls did their part in a
nicely executed flag drill.
Officiary was more than pleased at
the patronageaccorded, even if the
gate receipts were three or four hun-
dred dollar's behind other years on ac-
count of the rain and will pay all
prizes as, usual supposing part of the
money may have have to be borrow-
ed.
Kincardine well known Pipe Band
rendered a splendid program of mlusic
during the afternoon.
The day's proceedings concluded
with a bumper crowd ab the Concert
' en ht the
skatingrink. Programrawwas A 1, consisting of the Maple Leaf
Quartette,
of Galt, who in song and
story. proved their ability to entertain,
instruct and amuse the large audience
that greeted them. The personnel
consisted of A. 0. Fleming, basso ; 0.
McGregor, baritone, E. 0. Healey,
tenor and H. Hezlewood, canto.
They will be sure of a hearty welcome
on another occaaslon. Iva and Carl
Barclay filled the bill to a nicety in
their dances and were equally at hone
in their vocal selections. The Pipe
Band performed their part with good
effect. Hon, President Leckie was the
Ohairnian. The proceeds of the 0011 -
cert was 5850.00.
