He was wounded in November last but returned to the trenches shortlyafter Capt. Lee was gazetted as a Li ieut n the 77th Wentworth Regiment. His home was in Stoney Creek, Ont. Rnecbtel, of Sask., formerly of Brussels, was killed in action on April 91b, 111 France, Re was 22 years of age. His brother Pte. Gordou, who was also at be front, was reported missing and it is feared lie has also fallen, Both are nap - hews of Rev. D aud Mrs. Perrie, Wing - barn, tbeir father being a brother to the latter. Their mother is a daughter of Adam Red, of Chatham, an old Brus- selite, who visited here last year. Old friends will sympatbise deeply with tbe sorrowing families interested. Stewart, formerly copneeted with the bead office of the Standard Brink, Tor- ortto, but now manager of the breech Standard Bank at Campbentord, Out., received word late Friday afternoon that his son, Captain Ferris Stewart, who re- ceived his military training at the King - Ston Military College, had died frbm wounds in France, Capt. Stewart was well known in Toronto, having lived meet of les life there, after his father left 13russels, Ont, to take up ids work, at the head office of the Stands el Bank. The deceased soldier was a grendson of the late J. M. Ferris, M. P. P. OAKLEY GoES TO HER RE- WARD -Last Sunday the imperative summons to which no denial can be made celled awav the spirit of Mrs. Thomas Oakley. She died at the home of Mrs. D Robb, corner eurnberry and Queen streets, wbere she bad been making her home during the past Winter. For several years deceased had 1101 had very robust health but the end came rather soddenly after all. There was a cern- bination of ailments, acute Bright's disease, erysipelas and a weak heart. Some of the business men offer to supply oil for their frontage if such a plan can be carried out. W. S. Smith, a special service man from Oshawa was to Brussels for a few days. His work is to see that the Chev- rolet automobiles are correct in every particular and be visits the various agencies with this intent. SOME people are getting quite anxious to know what the Horticultural Society is going to do witb their 5 street flower beds. They will be planted with Scarlet Geraniums with border of Salvia. The intention was to have Tulips in them last Fall but the bulbs could not be ob- tained in time. MEDAL CONTEST.- A Silver Medal Contest will be held in the Methodist Church, Brussels, Tuesday, May 2911, at 8 o'clock, under the direction of the W. C. T. U. There will be two classes one In Singing and one in Elocution. Part of proceeds go to the Red Cross. Fuller announcement next week. Gardi- ner. of Goderich, Mrs. Fred McCrack- en's father, is not having good health and is confined to bed most of the time. He is well advanced in years.
