the Town Hall, Brussels, Wednesday
evening of last week, interesting ad-
dresses were given by A. R. G. Smith,
New Hamburg, and Mrs. R. L. Ivloore-
house, Cairo, J. M. McCallum, Shakes-
peare, annonnced on the bills, was not
here, Miss Minerva Tones and Miss
Miss Ruth Sinclair gave a fine piano
duet and Miss Isabel Strachan sang
"The Irish Lullaby" in excellent voice,
Mrs. R. Thomson acting as accompan-
ist, In the absence of President Amos
Smith the chair was taken by W. H.

mise of Mrs John Sinclair, at the horns
of her daughter, Mrs, F. R McPherson,
Binsearth, Manitoba, last Friday morn-
ing, was received by fdrs, Alex. Ross,
Meter of deceased, Princess street,
Brussels Cause of death was a stroke
of paralysis which was the third. Mrs.
Sinclair's maiden name was Catherine

Binsearth for past 4 years, The ycung-
est daughter, lessie, died in February
18g1, at x6 years of age and iu February

Principal Winghem Public School, on
the "Political Growth of Canada."
Speaker traced the gradual develop-
ment of democratic government in
Canada from the beginning of British
rule through struggles and victories
till elle broad level of liberty we now
enjoy was achieved. He closed by
giving a clear picture of themachinery
of government from local to National
affairs. Two novel features of the
program were the Royal Philharmonic
Orchestra consisting of the boys of
Bluevale School under the leadership
of L. S. Winch and a pantomime, erl-
bitted, "Seen at a Railway Station."
Bawd was a great success both
musically and its the rich and varied
costumes worn by the musicians.
The pantomime, in which Robb. N.
Ailcheson acted tbe part of the tramp
and L. S. Winch, the dude, moved the
audience both to laughter and tears.
Pleasing solos were given by Miss Ag-
nes Aitchison and Miss Carrie Dia-
mond and a recitation on tbe Huron
