TIER POST hopes to see Reeve Robert
W. Livingston, of Grey township,
chosen Warden of Huron Co, for tete.
Itis many a year since the honor be-
longed to Grey and besides the gentle-
man proposed is well qualified for the
position. We are not stating more than
the truth when we say few men study
more closely Municipal law and amend-
ments or are Letter posted than Reeve
Livinghton and bis years of service in
the Co. Council, serving on important
Committees anti keeping tab on all that
goes on, would well qualify him to dis-
charge the duties of this important of-
fice. We hope to see him the choice
when Couuty Council assembles in
Godericb on the 25th inst.
Midterms Parliament got down to
business this week. Anything that re-
quires to be done shouldibe attended to in
sharp order and iu that way make a short
session, thereby cutting ofl thousands
of dollars of expense. These are war
times and taxes mounting up, con-
sequently every dollar that can be saved
without interfering with the country's
business should be. Some fellows lose
sight of economy when he has a chance
to get his hand into the bag but we are
glad to believe they are not all of that
stripe. The number of grafters appear
to be on the increase, however, and
some of the sneak thieving, even in war
times, are. a poor recommendation if a
mac desired a certificate of character
forbis honestly in p t'dic affairs.
ATTEND the Farmers' Institute meet.
lags and thereby evidence your interest,
if you are a farmer, in the noble calling
of Agriculture. Good speakers are pro-
vided to address the gatherings who will
be well pleased to have you take part in
the discussions whether you agtee with
what they sailor not. At this particular
period in the remoulding of the Farm-
erg Institute the best judgment of all
concerned is required to set this or-
ganization agoing along prol ah'y more
practical lines of helpfulness to the
people of Ontario. The Women's In•
stltate gatherings will meet in the after-
noon of the same day as the men as-
semble whet: topics of importance to this
live body will be introduced and debat.
ed. Ontario and the Dominion are on
the threshold of improving conditions
and the result will depend very largely
on the part the people of Canada play
and bow they perform their share of the
task. Attend the Institutes.
"WEu. never let the old flag fall" is
still the motto of Canada as she rallies to
the support of Motherland in the great
'titanic struggle in Europe, Those who
are in a position to speak with authority
say evidences are not wanting of things
coming ,the way the Allies desire but
there's bard fighting to be done yet be-
fore the much desired Peace will be
brought about. The only Peace we
want is the permanent, abiding kind
and that can only come by a breaking
tip and aboli ion of militarism and the
coming of a democracy that will not per-
mit of one or two men to set the world
aflame with fire and sword. The com
mon people must get their desert and
the Prince of Peace hold sway then will
come the happy period when all men
shall brothers be the wide world round,
20th century civilization demands some-
thing better anti nobler than the mar•
deriogof millions._

Provincial Prohibition
Rural Ontario le against the liquor
traffic. It did not need the recent
Local Option contests to prove this,
but the latest results showing Local
Option established 'in a number of ad-
ditional villages anti townships al, a
time when cue would almost inlagille
that the favorable field had already
been covered, reveal how strong tem-
perance opinion in rural Ontario real-
y is.
Even more signifieent in this year's
coneests are the majorities polled in
favor of Local Option in such urban
centres as Brantford, where the ma-
jority was nearly 1000, Belleville, Port
Arthur, Sarnia and Woodstock. -
The fact that owing to the three-
fifths clause, Local Option is riot
actually in force in these cities in
spite of these majorities, brings out
another vital aspect of the situation.
The victories this year, whereby
over 50 licenses were wiped out in-
stead of only 4 eliminated last year by
Local Option, prove the contention
that public opinion against the ligunr
traffic has stiffened up considerably
owing to the war, At the sante time,
the saving of 90 licenses this year by
the three fifths clause atld the total of
500 licenses in the province saved by
this means, indicate that strong pub-
lic opinion against the liquor traffic
has not adequate facilities to express
itself.
Local Option under the three-fifths
clause, snoeesel'uI as it has been this
year as in the the past, will not ac-
complish what the people of Ontario
want done, making the Province dry.
It is generally recognized alike by
friend and foe of the liquor traffic,
that the movement for Provincial
Prohibition will be strengthened, and
