Auxiliary of Christ church, Listowel,
met at'lho home of the President, Mrs.

ing together. They took advantage of
the opportunity to express to Mrs,
(Rev.) Lang -Ford, in a tangible way,
the high esteem in which she is held in
Listowel and tile ;sincere regret that is
felt at ber departure. ,Mrs. Lang -Ford
was presented with a beautiful sunburst
and Miss Nora Laug.Ford with a tur-
quoise ring, A short musical program
was given, lunch served and a very
pleasant social evening was spent. Rev.
Mr, Lang•Ford's removal from Listo-
wel to Berlin is deeply regretted,

78th inst.; the first section of passenger.
train No. 2, C. P, R,, Eastbound, from
Winnipeg, struck a switch engine which
was on the main track, in violation of
rules, halt mile West of Fort William
station. Three returning harvesters,
named Adam Holmes, Seaforth,'Ont .
George Leadh,l3avfield, Ont„ and D.
H, Leach, Bayfield, Ont„ were killed.
Engineer Eckes, on the switch engine,
was seriously hurt. All, three victims of
the accident were on their way home
for Christmaswhen they met their deaths.
George and David H. Leach are sons of
David Leach, Bayfield, anti both are

lay to traffic amounted to about 3 hours.
The damage to rolling stock was not ser-
ious. Engineer Eckes, who was taken
to the hospital immediately after the ac-
cident, had his left arm amputated,
Mr. Holmes is a nephew to Mrs. D.
Ewan and the Misses Holmes. of Brus-
sels. His funeral took place at Seaforth
Thursday of last week.

on and Lindsay Wilson, sone of Jno.
L. and Mrs. Wilson, Edmonton. Alta.,
formerly of this village, have enlisted
for Overseas- service.
John and Mrs. Hyndman, Crandall,
Man., accompanied by their three
children, are visiting the latter's par-
ents, Jno. and Mrs. Wallace, and other
relatives and friends here. On the
way down they were in a serious train
wreck, but luckily escaped injury.

A large crowd turned out to John
Ban's sale of pure bred Scotch Short-
horn cattle. Good prices were realiz-
ed.
Principal Marks, of our school, is
spending the holidays with hie par-
ents, at Grand Bend and with Toronto
friends,
John Hartley, formerly Principal of
Blyth school, now head of the Model
school at Vankleek Hill, with his wife
and young daughter, spent a few
days with friends here.
R. J. M. and Mrs. Barr spent a few
days in Blyth last week and while here
disposed Deed r f most of their furniture

private sale. Mr. Barr is travelling
for Dalley & Co., of Hamilton. After
the holidays he leaves for Galveston,
Texas, in the interests of his firm.
Blyth Branch of the Upper Canada
Bible Society held its annual meeting
in the Presbyterian church. Presi-
dent Jas. Smith in the chair. Treas-

acknowledged receipt of the cum of
8540 for the British Red Cross Society

week after a 3 months' ttip to the

Ile visited in the West for about 8
weeks, was at Vnncouver, Seattle

tended the great San Francisco Fair.
