GOOD GROWTH. -John Smith, Brussels
North, has alfalfa that is making great
growth. This week some of it that was
measured showed a length of over 4
feet. It is a great crop this seasou.
SOME lively practice games of foot ball
have been on the program at Victoria
Park in the evenings for the past few
weeks. They afford some rare sport for
the Spectators as well as the participants.
MONITOR SELF HEATING IRON. -Mr.
Johnston will be at S. Carter's store,
Brussels, Friday and Saturday of this
week to demonstrate the Monitor Self
Heating sod irons. It is a necessity to

EYE Hoar. -One day last week as
Wm. Cook, Turnberry street North, was
breaking up some kindling a piece of
wood struck him in the face near the left
eye. He was fortunate that the sight
was not destroyed. We hope be will
soon be o. k.
5 MINUTES EARLIER. -A new time
table came into effect last Monday on
the Grand Trunk in which the afternoon
train going East is changed from 3.45
to 3 4o, It will be well for the public to
"catch on" as 5 minutes is a trifle too
much to -make up in pursuit of an ex-
press train.

A FORMER BRUSSELITE.-The death
occurred late Wednesday afternoon of
last week of Charles Patrick Moore,
aged 8t years, at his residence, 64 Down-
ie street, Stratford. Deceased, who
WAS a member of St. Joseph's church,
was born in Halifax, but resided iu
Stratford for 33 years. He was married
twice, his first wife having pre -deceased
him. Mrs. J. H. Harrigan, of Colgate,
Oklahoma, is a daughter by his first
marriage. He is also survived by his
wife, who was Annie Colloton, of Blyth,
and by 3 sons, Albert, Joseph and
Charles, ot New York, and Mrs. F. J.
IPIugh es, of Toronto, a daughter.
Funeral took place Saturday morning at
8.3o, service being held in St. Joseph's
church and interment in Avondale

With the pluck that Miss Ferguson pos-
sessed and not wishing to cause alarm to
her relatives she underwent an opera-
tion at Toronto for its removal in the

out their knowledge. It looked as if

With indomitable pluck she battled
against the inroads of the ailment and
kept in a bright, cheerful, patient, re-
signed spirit during the passing months
until the end came and she got her re-
lease. The subject of this notice had a
wide circle of friends, both at home and
abroad, who deeply regret her, demise.
She was dowered by Nature, neat in her
dress, ladylike in iter manner and was
an A 1 saleslady. For a number of
years before leaving Brussels she was a
member of the Methodist Church. Her
mother, 6 brothers (viz Dougald, Tees
water ; Dan., Winnipeg ; Thos., Al
herta ; Jno., Brussels ; Peter, Alberta ;
and R.ol:t., Guelph) and 2 sisters (Mrs.
G. A, Best, at whose home Miss Fergu-
son died, Brussels; and Mrs, Will,
Jamieson, Winnipeg) survive and share
to the sympathy of the community.
The funeral took place Wednesday
afternoon to Brussels cemetery, an ap•
propriate service being conducted by

newing old friendships in town the early
part of the week. They had been visit-
ing at Mr. Cosecs' parental home at
Trowbridge They were welcome visit-
ors although their stay was too brief.

children spent a few days at the home
of John Hunter, Brussels, the formerts
father, before removing from Dungan-
non to Charing Cross. The Crewe con-
gregation on Dungannon circuit present
ed them with a cabinet of silver, niceiy
engraved, as a parting gift indicative of
good fellowship.

ex -Reeve Turnbull, of Grey township,
was calling on old friends in town last
Saturday. He has been a great sufferer
for the past year from neuritis and this
was only the second time ih the past 6
months for him to come to Brussels,
hence his visit was specially pleasing to
both the visited and the visitor. He
has been a. resident of Grey for. pearly. 5o
years and served in the various Munici-
pal offices hence is well known. We,
wish him improved health.
