Misses Henrietta Denman and Bessie McQuarrie, High school pupils, captured 1st prize at the Oar nivel last Thursday evening at Brussels. Prize was $L50 for best dressed "little girls." See Sale list on page 8. onl.T,-John Savage passed away on February 25th, at the home of Ids brother, Joseph, 6th Oon, of Grey in his 51st year. Ile .was born in tite townshipof Blandford, Oxford Co., and at 2 years of age moved with his parents to the 4th Con, Grey where his father owned a farm and deceased resided with his parents until 14 years ago when he bought a farm on the 6th con. where he hued until he took sick 5 months ago. He left his own horne and went to live with his brother Joseph where he was kindly taken care of through all his illness from which he suffered much as cancer of the bone was the trouble. Those left to mourn his death are 4 brothers (Joseph, William and Dan., of Grey township ; and Samuel, of Siftdn, Man,) and a sister (Mrs. Wm. Armstrong, also of this township.) Deceased was an honorable, indus- trious span, esteemed by all who knew him. His funeral took place Monday afternoon to Mount Pleasant cemetery Ethel and was largely at- tended, Rev. Mr, Shaw, Atwood, and Rev, Me. McKelvey, Ethel, conducted the services at the house, "Jesus Lover of My Soul" was sung at the Mr. Savage's rave indicative of a e trust g's rue in hie Saviour. Pallbearers were William Ward, F Collins, W. Hudson, D. McDonald, A. McDonald and J. Olark. The community tender their sympathy to the bereft family. Belgrave Mrs. (Rev.) Boyle was at Owen Sound for the week end visiting a friend who is ill. Miss Eliza Procter has been quite ill with an attack of appendicitis but early improvement is hoped for. A St. Patrick's social will be held in the basement of the Presbyterian church Wednesday evening of next week. Reeds, Messrs. Lundy, of Walton and McCulloch, of Cranbrook, were visitors with Rev, and Mrs. Boyle at the manse last week. Mrs. Robert Armstrong, rmstron 4th line Morris, was taken to thegWingham Hospital for treatment, which we trust will prove efficacious. Next Tuesday afternoon Belgrave Women's Institute will meet at the hone of Mrs. Caesar. An invitation extended to the ladies of the com- munity. Belgrave boys went to 0ranbrook last Friday evening to put on "The trial of the Kaiser" but the evening was so stormy Entertainment was postponed. Ethel Jonas Flood and family moved from here to Ohesley this week. Mr. and Mrs. McNichol left on Monday for their home in the West. Mrs. Andrew McKee is spending a couple of weeks with friends in Tor- onto. . We are sorry to know that burs. Jno. King is laid up at present but hope it will not be for long. John McDonald has bought the shed which stands ,on the school grounds and will move it to his own property right away. We are pleased to be able to report that Mrs. Spence, Miss Ella Hansuld and Geo. Pollard, who have been on ont sick 71st are well he road to' the s c recovery. Mrs. Francis Coates and her daugh- ter, h - ter Frances of Trowbridge, have moved into the house lately purchas- ed from the Mrs, Jonathan Wright estate. We bid them welcome. Last week Ethel Women's Institute packed and shipped a box to the Canadian Red Otoes Society, Toronto, containing 28 night shirts, 0 flannel shirts, 14 suits pajamas, 28 Red Cruse night shirts, 8 pairs of socks and 8 pairs wristlets. The Boy Scouts sent $12.00 in cash to the same Society. Good for them, CALLED IN YOUNG WOMANHOOD. - The spirit of Ethel Winnifred Barr, beloved wife of John Huether, 10th Con., of Grey, and second daughter of Robert Baer, Oth Con., took its flight last Sunday mottling shortly after 8 o'clock. She had been poorly for several months. Deceased was born and was Barr the Ba r h homestead on married December 81st 1913 to her now bereft partner. Her demise was heard of with deep regret by many as she was gretitlybeloved and was not yet 22 years of age. Mrs. Huether took a Oourse at Toronto Business College in her teens and afterward held positions in Olds, Alberta, Tor- onto and Guelph, Ever ready to assist in every good word and work the subject of this notice found room for the employment of her talents in Ethel Presbyterian church. She was a model housekeeper and did her part splendidly in adding to the happiness of her home, High hopes were enter- tained for the future but the Master called her and she passed peacefully away to the Palace of the King. Her husband and other relatives have the synpattiy of a wide circle of relatives and friends. Funeral was held Wed- nesday afternoon to Brussels ceme- tery. Two rinks of Wroxeter curlers drove to Brussels Monday and had a friendly game. Brussels won by a small margin. The sub- ject was "How to make this a hap- pier world," Jamestown Friday evening of this week, Mr. Arthur, of Philadelphia, will give- an address in Victoria Hall. Rumor says there are three wed- dings on the program nearby. We know of two and would like you, Mr. Editor, to tell us the other. Mrs. Chas. Forrest announces the engagement of her daughter, Miss Mary, to Martin Kerr, of blicltigan. Wedding will take place this month. A social evening is on the program at Mrs. Jas. Straohan's Thursday evening of this week, under the aus- pices of Jamestown Young People's Society. Mrs. J. R. Miller has gone to live at the home of her son-in-law, S. Snell, whose tesidence is within _gun shot of Mrs, Miller's old abode. Her health is keeping fairly good. The Ruttan farm has been leased to Jas. Kernagban, of Morris, who takes e i n at once. Mr. Thomas of orae e n possession unable to carr out his Bluevale,was b y agreement owingin to the death of his wife. We were glad to hear that J. D. Miller was appointed a Director on Board of the Howlett Mutual Fire In- surance Company as successor to his father, the late John R. Miller, who was the last of the veteran on the Board. Mr. Miller will snake a faith- ful worker and has acquaintance with the work on account of his father's long tenure. ADDRESS AND PRESENTATION. - Tuesday evening of this week a large company, nnmbering about 75, as- sembled at the home of R. T. Miller to -say good-bye before they remove to Wroxeter. An address expressive of regrets and good wishes was read by Oharlie.Forrest after which Will. Mc- Donald made the presentation of a fine buffet to Me. and eine Miller. A jardinere was given to Miss Mary and a Bon Bon dish to Miss Irene. Mr. Miller replied in appropriate terms testifying to the No.1 people he found the folk of this locality to be, A fine time was spent by the visitors and after luncheon theyseparated a for their homes with beswishes for the estimable Miller family. John Miller, the only son, succeeds his father on the homestead and in the meantime his sister will be his housekeeper. We hope matey years of happiness are ahead of Mr. and Mrs. Miller and family in their new home at Wroxe- ter, where they are no strangers. les. AND MRs. R. T. Huether, of Si. Slarys, attended the funeral of Mrs. JulHuether. uether• SUDDEN DRAWL Coates, an old and well known resident of this locality, died very suddenly on Tues- day morning. The funeral was held' Thursday at 10 a, m. and interment made at Kinbui'u, the former home of deceased, Mr. Coates was in his 80bh year, Walton Mise Johnston who was so serious- ly ill, is regaining her old time vigor and will soon be as hearty as ever we hope. Lundy tied the matrimonial knot at the manse, between Armour Dun- das and Miss Agnes Clark, well known young - people of this locality. Mr. and Mrs. Dundee left on the 1.88 train for a short wedding trip and on their return will take up residence on the Fulton farm which Mr. Dundee has rented. .� The regular meeting of the Woman's Institute will be held in the basement of Duff's church Wednes- day, March 17th, at 2 o'clock. G. M. Elliott, Secretary of Children's Aid Society of Huron Co., will be present and address the meeting. Besides the. usual business, musical numbers will be on the program and lunch will be served at the close of the meeting. Anyone wishing to help on the Red Cross work can do so by asking for it at W. J, Neal's store. MRs. S, CADE GALLED TO HER REWARD. -Early last Monday morn- ing the spirit of Dolly Pollard, be- loved wife of Samuel Cade, of Gode- rich, was called to its rest. She was the only daughter of the late Wm. and Mrs. Pollard, former well known residents of WE:atoP and was 42 years f age. 17years ago she was o g 6 after a sojourn'near married and r Blybh they took up residence in Gode- rich. She had been ill with cancer since last July and at times suffered greatly, Death came as a happy re- lief. Funeral took place at Blyth -on. Wednesday afternoon, service being conducted in the Methodist church. Joshua Pollard is deceased's only brother.
