appropriate reply in behalf of Mrs. Ellis
and himself, thanking the kind friends

social chat, and refreehments filled in a
very enjoyable evening after which the
company separated wishing Mr. and
Mrs. Ellis m.uty happy returns of the
di y On February and, 1865, Mr. and
Mrs Bilis were united in matrimony,
by Rev, Mr, Knott, at Caragallion, Co.
Leithrim, Ireland.Mr, Ellis cache to
Canada In 1871 and his wife and family
followed the next year. For parts of 2
years they lived et Brampton and located
at Brussels in 1873 and they have con
tinned here since. to children were
born to the home; 5 of whom are de-
ceased. The survivors are Mrs. Little,
Elsow, Sask ; Mrs. Whiting, Deadens,
Sask. ; Harry, • Baptist minister, at
Shanavron, Sask. ; Mrs. Mabee, of
Ingersoll ; and Robert at home just
now. Mrs, Mabee and son, Ellis, were
here for the glad occasion. While Mrs.
Ellis is not having very robust health,
her partner has seldom been off work
and now, in his eta year, is a very
hearty, industrious and reliable man.
Many old friends' who were not at the
celebration wish the fine old couple the
best of everything going,

home team. Game proved to be both
fast and exciting. Half time score

UNION -Friday, lan. 29'h. the regular
meeting of the Woman's Christian
Temperance Union was held in the
audience room of the Public Library.
Regular business was transacted and
plans were laid for carrying on a very
imp'lrtant branch of the work -the
medical Temperance department. Ow-
ing to illness, County President, Mrs
H. Hooper. of Exeter, wait unable to be
present. At a former meeting is was
moved and heartily seconded that we 05-
siat the work of the Red Cross Society
A letter of sympathy will be sent to Mrs
(Rev) E. G. Powell; a former much
esteemed member, who has beeo serious-
ly ill. Many kind wishes are expressed
for her recovery. -Our Nation is now at

attending to some finishing touches in

Last Sunday morning Rev. D. Wren
preached a sermon on lob in which his
unspeakable faith in God's Providential
plan was well presented. Rev. R. A.
Lundy, B. A , of Walton. gave an excel-
lent discourse from Genesis 3 15, dealing
with the sad story of man's fall -ani' the
wonderful redemption in the evening,
It Was a well planned address end -re-
ceived the close attention it deserved in
ire four -fold d visions. Rev. Mr.
Lundy is a practical preacher and has a
good delivery.

Chas. Whelen, residence unknown,
was charged with theft of jewelry
from George Scott. He was tried be-
fore Magistrate Morton and: taken to
Goderich by Chief Allen to serve a
term in jail.

The Dominion Department of Agri-
culture is co-operating with the
Ontario Department in 'a series of
Agricultural Conferences which are to
be held throughout this Province, the
object being to explain and discuss
conditions in oonutriee where live
stook and agricultural production will
