with the 1st Contin lent at Salisbury
Plain, England :—
We are sitting in out. tents this
Sunday morning wishing it would
stop raining. Il' has been raining ills
most: every day since we cline here,
but not quite heavy enough to stop
our drills. We are still winking hard
at, it eve'ty day and are vapidly becom-
ing competent and getting hardened

Every other day we have route march

Rev. Henry A. Fish of Owen Sound,
Grand Chaplain of the Orange Order
of British America, preached in the
Methodist church on Sunday evening.
His subject was "lhlixed marriages,
public school and language questions."
The Women's Patriotic League
have collected $200 for Christmas
gifts for the soldiers of the first and
second contingents. Every member

Boyd, relict of the late Wm. Shearer,
in her 70th year. Deceased was born
in Scotland and when a child came
with her parents to Canada, settling
it Garafrax. Family afterwards
moved to Ehna township, then called
the "Queen's Bush,"and settled on the
4th Con. In 1885 she married Wm.
Shearer, who pre -deceased her 7
years ago. 5 children were born to
Air. and Mrs. Shearer, all of whom
survive, namely ,—Mrs. J. Dick and
Silos Shearer, Listowel ; Thomas,
Edward and William of Elam.

sided for 4 years, removing from here
to Detroit 10 years ago. The deceas-
ed made ]ler home with her daughter,
Mins Effie Love, of Duluth, Minn„
and was visiting In Burton when ehe
died. She is survived by 7 daughters,
0 of whom were at her bedeidti When
