NEW HYMN Boox,—A new hymn
book has been prepared for the Metho-
dist church, More than 7,000 hymns
were examined and a list of 575 hymns
and on tunes is the result of the de-
liberations of the Committee, The new
book contains one third fewer hymns
and cue third more tunes than the old
one and it was compared in collabora-
tion with a special committee of the
Presbyterian church, so that several
hymns used by the Presbyterians are
embodied in the book in question.
While some of the hymns selected are
new and still under copyright, a good
proportion are old favorites, The old
times are preserved in the new book.
To TALK CHURCH UNION.—At a meet-
ing of representatives of the union
committees of the Methodist, Presby-
terian and congregational churches it
Was decided to call a joint meeting for
December 16 and (7 next to be held in
Toronto, The business to he consider-
ed is the proposed changes in the basis
of union suggested by the General
Assembly of the Presbyterian church ;
also to decide upon the name of the
united church and the courts thereof
should the union be consummated,

certain proposals to be brought before
Ihe,joint committee on the following

ing of the Seaforth Hockey Club held
in the Carnegie library, the following

mittee. As the club bas more materi-

A party of the local Nimrods left
for Muskoka on their annual deer
hunting expedition. In Company
with Listowel and Milverton parties
they chartered a special cac and
were rushed right there by the 0. P.
R. John Saudees and Charles Val-
lance went from Atwood.
The funeral of George Hurst, held
from the family residence on the 12th
Con. of Elma to BIma Centre ceme-
tery, was conducted by Rev. J. M.
Shaw, of the Anglican church. Mr.
Hurst was in his 74th year and had
resided on the farm where he died for
the pact 15 years. Previously he had
resided in Atwood, where he was a
foreman on the railway. His wife
died several years ago. One son sur-
vives.
