The waist line has gradually worked its way to the normal line. Tartan braids and tartan silks are novel and pretty' trimmings to some of the velvet suite. The gathered ruffles used so much this winter are especially be- coming to the slender ftgure. The big china buttons d garieh coloring aro used with good effect on the white Bilk and eaitin waists. There is a hint that the fur cape will supplant the fur wrap, which has held sway for so many seasons. The Parisienne is bravely sweep- ing the hair back from the fore- head and raising it over a cone shaped support. We have hosiery novelties in the shape of rainbow shaded silk stook - fags with horizontal gradations of color. Fur hats with the crown of ani- mal pelt or a band trimming, ra- ther than those of all fur, are in the lend in fashionable millinery. Short coats cut almost in bolero smartness are worn side by side with long three-quartercoats, hav- ing barques displaying hip pli, its. You aro permitted to wear a sleeve to the knuckles. If you de- sire, in your ball gown, and if you have a good arm you can fasten the upper points of yourbodice over the shoulder with a small jewel. A new street coat has a panel in- serted down the middle of the back, which is cut six inches longer than the sides, hanging like a sash to the knees. Ribbed stockings in two shades— . green hades, green and black, red and black, black and white, black and blue and other combinations—are made in both lisle and silk. They are call- ed accordion ribbed stockings. Slip-on gloves, in chamois, with straps at the wrist, to make the gloves warm and secure, are a good choice for the young girl's walking glove. They are smart looking, easy to pub on and off, and easily kept clean. The stout woman should know that yellow increases her natural size. Satin also makes her look bigger, Blue is a slightly enlarging tone ; white is a stationary color. Black, seal brown, navy blue and the deepest of crimsons are all tones that decrease the size. Cloth sashes on cloth suits and frocks' are a feature of some of the mid -winter clothes. These sashes are not tied snugly about the waist but are dropped well below the hips in the back, where the ends are e loosely knotted or else simply fold- ed one over the other. Meteor's Adventures. Lecturing about 'shooting -stars, Sir Robert Ball used to interject the adventures of a meteorite which fell in the United States. The mass of molten iron was found by a far- mer, who began to exhibit it for lirofit. Then came along the owner of the lance; who pointed out that he retained all mineral rights, so that the meteorite was his property. Tho dispute was never settled, for the Customs officials intervened and confiscated the -meteorite as unsnanufaetured iron which had entered the United States without paying the 5 per cent. ad valorem duty. One Cent Dinner for Poor. 1ETER EFFECTS OF DRE.AREO..LA. GRIPP.i: lveroome by the Use of Br. 'Wil hams' Pink P1110 Throughout Canada le grippe (in fluenza) prostrates thousands of busy men and women every winter. wrecking their health and leaving behind numerous serious ailments. It is the after effects of la grippe that cause such widespread misery. Here is the reason. Le, grippe leaves behind it weakened 'vita' powers, a shattered nervous eys- tem, impure and impoverished blood, and a low state of health that renders the sufferer extremely liable to 'rheumatism, indigestion, neuralgia and nervous disorders. You can avoid la grippe entirely by keeping the blood rich and pure through the occasional use of Dr. Williams' Pink Pills. Or if, be- cause you have not recognized your blood weakness, la grippe fastens its fangs upon you, its disastrous after effects can be driven out by the same medicine. Dr. Williams' Pink Pills increase and enrich the blood supply, feed the starving nerves, and thus impart new health and new strength to enfeebled men and women. Mr. G. St. Clair, con- nected with the Sun Life Assurance Oo., Halifax,_ N.S., Bays : "I was taken down with a heavy cold and la grippe and was confined to the. house for some weeks. I had the best of medical attention, and al- though the doctor said I was cured I was still far from well, and did not have the vim ,necessary for a strenuous business life, and did not attend to either office or field work. Talking with a friend he said 'Wire not .try Dr, Williams' Pink Pills.' I decided to do so, and before I had used a box felt an improvement, and before long the Pills made me feel like a new man. I can't there- fore Fay too much in favor of this valuable medicine, and hope that any who may read this and be in need of medical attention will be persuaded to try this truly wonder- ful medicine." In solution radium decom- poses water, giving off an explosive mixture of gases. Mr. Phillips pro- duced these gases; •and by fusing them with an electric spark created a current of air which drove a small fan.. Another experiment described was a "sporting event," as the lec- turer was doubtful whether he could encompass it. In practice it was very successful. From the`. stage along the roof ran a, glass tubing, 25 flet in length, connected with a tube of zine, sulphide. The lights were turned down and, in the dark- ness radium emanations were pumped through the tubing, and in an instant the sulphide was glow- ing luminously while the audience =many of whom were medical men —loudly applauded.
