A CANCELLED PRAYER.—Rev. R. E.
Knowles, of Galt, the wen known Pres-
byteriau clergyman and author officiates
at many of the weddings that takes
place in and about Galt. Recently a
couple quitestrange to Mr. Knowles
came for him to perform the nnarring°
ceremony over them. As was his cus-
tom he offered a fervent prayer, invok-
ing the Divine blessing over them. As
they seemed to be worthy folks and not
over -burdened with this world's
goods, he prayed, among other things,
for their r material prosperity and be-
sought the Lord to greatly increase the
man's business, laying Butch stress on
this point. In filling out the blattks it
became necessary to ask the man his
business, and to the minister's horror he
said, "I keep a saloon". In telling the
story to his wifeafterwads, Mr, Knowles
said that as he wrote down the ocenpa
tion he whispered, "Lord, you needn't
answer that prayer,"
