SUDDEN DEATHS.- Early Tuesday' morning this community was sue - liprised to hear that Fred. Jones, who ves on the Sth line, was found dead. He aid his wife and baby had gone to Brussels Monday evening and left on the return trip about 10. It is said Jones was the worse of liquor; and could' not drive the horse and Mrs. Jones was afraid. About 2 miles. out she and the child got into Geo. Readnnon's rig and tied the other horse behind the buggy. On' arrival hone it was discovered that some- thing vas wrong with Mr. Jones as his hands were cold and ori closer ex- amination it was-lonid he was dead. A Dr. was sent for but of course could do nothing. Coroner Kennedy, of Wiughtun, was called and on visiting the place thought an inquest un- necessary and reported • to the 0o. Attorney. Thelatteit ordered a post- mortem which was conducted by Drs. McRae and Bryans, of Brussels, whose report has not been made public, 'other Hien no injuries were discovered. There may be an inquest yet to hear finding of the physician and ascertain other facts that require looking after. The funeral took place Thursday afternoon, Mrs. 'Jones was a' Miss Haleyand i h s the mother of 6 children, 5 of whom are in charge of Huron County Children's Aid, when Jones was living at Gode rich. The latter was working of late on some of tho municipal drains being constructed in Morris and is said to have been receiving $40 per month,' Jones was about 37 years of age and in his youth lived in Brussels with his parents. PEACE STONE IN THROAT. -Harry Brown, aged 6, hada close call from being choked to death en Saturday eveuing, when a large peach stone lodged in his throat. Nothing was known of the affair until he was found uucorcious, black in the face, with blood coming from hisnose and mouth. Had he been found only a few minutes later he would have been dead. Eveleigh Gaudy, wife of Rev. Dr. J. R. Gundy, a supe ran - ntseed 11ehodi t minister, formerly of \Vingham. .She had been ailing. for some years. Mrs. Gundy was a native of Long Point, Quebec, and moved to St. Thomas seven years ago when her husband was appointed pastor of Grace Methodist church. Besides her husband, Mrs. Grandy is survived by four sons: W, E. Gundy, Chatham; J, H. Oakville ; J. J. F., Toronto, and Charles R., St. Thomas. Funeral service was held at Grace 'Methodist church St. Thomas, Wednesday afternoon, and the remains were taken to Exeter- Uri Thursday for burial In the family. plot. BAD 1rIE,Si.-Fire, which was dis- covered at 2.15 Friday morning com- pletely destroyed the big plant of the Kensington Furniture Company here and caused a loss of $40,000. 85 men are out of work. The factory is owu- edby F. G. Rutnball, of Loudon, and it is expected will be rebuilt. The building was a frame one and when the fire WAS noticed had made great headway. A heavy stock of wood made Rue fuel, and in short time the piece was ablaze from enol to end. So fierce was the heat that the fire- men only by the hardest kind of work prevented the flames from spreading to adjoining places. Listowel Ruppel & Son have purchased a new .Nord automobile, which they have added to their liver, Y J. Irwin Durst has sold his harness business to W. G. Gordon, Acton, who takes possession on Sept. 15. Mr. Durst has not decided what he will do in the future. 0. 13. Prize won by Mr. Backing was for the best series of Drug Store advertisements and he was in com- petition with all stores in Canada the size of Listowel. Teeswater DR. DMUG,u,n STEWART DECEASED. -A well-known Bruce county medi- cal practitioner, in the person of Dr. Dougald Stewart, died at Teeswater Friday after a lingering illness of six months' duration. The late Dr. Stewart was of Highland Scotch ex- traction being born near Guelph 64 year's ago. During 86 years' practice in Teeswater he had a large clientele, Though somewhat quiet and reserved, he possessed an exceptional fund of Scotch humor. Always gentle anc3 kind, he was revered by hie patients and exceptionally xce tionall wg well thought of throughout the distriot. He was a life -ling Reformer, and was once Chairman of the Teeswater Reform Association. He was prominent in Masonic and other fraternal circles. DIEo AT WATERTOWN, SOUTH DAKOTA. -As stated last week George McMillan, son of George and Mrs. McMillen, of Brussels, died at Watertown, South Dakota, ou Wednesday, loth inst., at 12.15 o'clock: His permits, sister and little daughter got there at 8 a, m, but' the injured man had not regeiued consciousness since the accident on Saturday previous. Deceased who was in the employ of the Whooley Meat Packing Co., was assisting in drawing up a carcass of beef when somebody came to be waited on. Mr. McMillan told his companion to see what was wanted and he would go on witb the work. In doing so the handle of the windlass slipped out of his hand and started whirling round at a lively, rate and in attempting tocatch it he was dealt a blow on the back of his head , that crushed his skull and felled him to the floor. 'The injured was con- veyed - man n veyed to the hospital at once where an operation was performed but the patient never rallied and.he passed a- way as stated above.
