MURDER IN MCKILLOP TOWNSHIP
Hugh Gordon Slain By His Only
Son
A Sad Cage
Robett Gordon, a young Fenn-
er, aged 25, residing iu
MeKil-
lop Township, is in the cells at
Goderich charged with causing the
death of his fv.ther, Hugh Gordon,
aged 53, at their home on Wednesday
night of last week by striking hint on
the hn
ead with a piece of on. Ac-
cording to the young man's story, he
was whippiug a horse at the stable
when his father happened along and
remonstrated with him. Young
Gordon ttlleges that hislather threat-
ened to strike him, and made a
motion. Gordon says be at once
picked up a heavy piece of iron that
lay on the floor close by and knocked
his father down. Hurrying into thehouse,
house, he remarked to his aunt and
sister "I guess I've killed father."
The two women went with him and
brought the unconscious man into
the house, and at once called• Dr.
Ross, The victim of the assault, it
was found had a severe fracture at the
base of the skulL He never recover-
ed conscious, and died soon after mid-
night. According to young Gordon's
statement the row occurred between
7 and 8 o'cloCk in the evening.
As soon as death occurred, Dr.
Ross notified the authorities and
County Constable Whitesicles of Hens -
all at once arrested young Gordon.
Coroner Dr. 50011 01 once empannell-
ed a jury, aud the body was viewed
and an adjournment made untilTuesday. Tuesday.
Hugh Gordon was one of the best-
kuown farmers in the district and
the family is one of thee -most respect-
ed in McKillop. Robert is Lite only son
and hitherto has borne a splendid
reputation. He has three sisters,
Misses Aunie, Pheiny and Lily, all
at home, and his aunt, who resided
with the family, His mother died
some years ago.
Young Robert Gordon was a mem-
ber of the Presbyterian church, and
has a host of friends, who are shock-
ed river the °eminence which has
resulted in his arrest). When he was
brought; to the police station about
2 o'clock Thursday maiming the young
man felt his position keenly, and his
grief over his father's death was very
genaine. Throughout the day he had
many weeping spells and the
authorities are convinced from what
he has said that the whole affair was
the result of a passionate outburst.
Gordon was for a short tirne a bar-
ber. in Seaforth, but later got tired of
it and went back to the farm.
aunty Constable Whitesides found
the piece of iron bar with which
young Robert Gordon,says he struck
down his father at their home in Mc.
.Killop. The weapon is a short, heavy
piece of iron bar and. in the hands of
the strong young farmer lutist have
been a most formidable weapon.
The funeral of Hugh Gordon was held
Saturday afterhoon from his fine
farm residence to the Maitlandbank
cemetery, and was as quiet as teossible.
The members of the family wished to
have everything absolutely pt'ivate.
The services were conducted by Rev.
Mr, Carswell, of the Presbyterian
church of which the late Mr, Gordon
was one of the most respected mem-
bers.
All through the district the greatest
sympathy is being felt for the dead
man's sister and three daughters and
also -for the young son. The family
is held in the highest esteem. Mem-
bers of the family stated that young
Robert had not been in good health
lately. For some days last) week he
had remained in the house resting
about on the sofa, but with the re-
turn of fine weather all were anxious
to mesh the spring seeding and plow-
ing, and the young man had been
petting in long hours. One of his
horses was a young one, and he had
much trouble with it; and when he
came in on Wednesday evening he was
giving it a sound whipping when his
father interfered.
The Gordon farm of 100 acves is one
of the best in a district filled with fine
farms. It is an orderly, well -kept
place and there is every evidence of
prosperity. Hugh Gordon died with-
out any will. Although he had a few
moments of consciousness before be
died there was no time to make
a will.
The young mares general attitude
has caused much speculation among
the jail officials so much so that an
examination is to be made by the
jail Burgeon to discover whether he is
weak-minded or not. Gordon seems
to be absolutely nitooneerned over
the matter. Friday night he slept
like a top and Saturday has taken
tnore interest in his meals than in
anything else. 'He talks freely con-
noting the death of his father, but
does not in any way seem one bit
sorry for What, he has done. "I Mtn1
Ithow 1 had struck hint se heed en.
tit I saw him to the ground," he
said. "He rushed at me, to ellastise
roe for beating thehorse, awl stimele
him." Gordo» did not express
any desire to attend Itis father'
tutietal.

To Our Friends and Neighbors
You know us. You know we would not that we could not
afford to — go back on our word. Nor can you afford to ignore
this money-back4fniot.satisfied offer on this splendid laxative.
We honestly believe we have the
beat bowel remedy ever made—the
most pleasant -to -take, most per -
momently beneficial laxative for relief
from the miseries and dangers arising
from constipation.
We wouldn't say this if we didn't
believe it to be true. Wo wouldn't
risk our reputation by making such
statements did We not feel sure you
would find them true.
Our faith is built both on the
knowledge of what Rexall Orderlies
are made of and on observation of
• very many severe eases in which they
have proven their merit.
Try them at Our Risk
If they, do not abundantly prove
their merit with you also — if you
are not entirely satisfied with them —
we will refund your money — and we
will do that on your mere say-so.
We don't ask you to risk a penny,
teen that fair? -
Just let rho bowels fell in properly
doing their work —juet let their
action be delayed and incomplete
and the entire system and every
other organ suffers. Wastes that
should have been dispelled remain
LO poison the system.
Iletulaches, biliousness, nervous-
ness and other tormenting and seri-
ous ills are common when the bowels
fail to act daily as nature intended.
All this may be avoided, if you will
accept our advice.

taste just like candy. They are
soothing and easyin action. They
do not cause griping, nausea, purg-
ing or excessive looseness. They
tend to tone and strengthen intestinal
nerves and muscles. They promptly
relieve constipation, and help to per-
manently overcome it.
Rexall ,Orderlies promote better
spirits and better health. In all of
these things they are vastly superior
to old-fashioned, harsh salts and
other purgatives, which aro not only
unpleasant to tato but which usually
leave the bowels in woree condition
