Young Folks
Happy floppy's New Home.
When ]appy Floppy woke from
her lung winter nap, she felt so
drowsy that sire snuggled down in
her warm burrow to take another
nap, She closed her oyes'comfor-
tably, and drought that when the
sun climbed a little higher eh
would hop out and take ft lock at
things, Thump ! thump ! What was
that 4 11n earthquake ? Happy
floppy's eyes popped open. What
do you think had happened? She
had been shoveled up with a. loar!-
of loam, hauled into the city, and
dumped into a back yard—and such
a back yard l It was so small that
she could cover it in three good
hops. She looked round scornful-
ly. Not a bit of grass, not a tree
was in sight!
Do you wonder that Happy Hop-
pv longed for the big garden patch
where daisies and clover grew ?
Happy FIoppy was sure that she
would starve to death. Where were
the nice, fat cutworms, and the
busy black -and -yellow cucumber -
bugs? She would have to depend
on house -flies, and she saw only one
crawling about ! Think how many
flies it takes to keep a healthy toad
from hunger—three hundred a day !
Happy Hoppy tried every corner
of the yard to see if there were a
bole big enough for her to crawl
through, but there was not. That
made her so unhappy that she hid
herself way down in the loose earth
as far as she could go. She was so
preoccupied with her troubles that
when sorne one came to rake the
earth she neither heard nor felt
hint,
But one warm day she was so
hungry that she hacl to come out
to find something to eat. She was
just in time to see three people com-
ing out of the door—a man, a wo-
man, and a pale -faced boy who sat
in a strange -looking chair that
moved on wheels. Happy Hoppy
was too much surprised to move;
she sat quite still and blinked her
eyes in the etr, :Jr, sunlight.
"This is sae!' g xld, rich loam!"
the woman 'vas saying. "Look how
the things have started already!
Vl'hy, the ferns are beginning to
uncurl, and the clover -is in bud!"
"I can see the tiny buds," the
boy said.
"Ferns, clover! What can they
mean?" said Happy Hoppy, and
stretched her short neck, winked
hard, and looked about. Sure
enough ! There were' ferns, tender,
green shoots, curving up from the
earth to make, by and by, the cool-
est of umbrellas to sit under on hot
days; and there were big bunches
of clover,. just the thing to attract
moths; and Solomon's -seal stood up
as if it hacl always grown there.
Happy Hoppy found that she had
done a great deal of worrying for
nothing.
Happy Hoppy was puzzled. She
did not understand until the big
.man explained to some one who
looked down from -one of the win-
dows. "Yon see, Willie could not
go to grandmother's this summer,
so we are trying to make the coun-
try come to ]aim."
Ah, that was it I Happy Hoppy
had never heard of such a wonder-
ful thing, but right then and there
she made up her mind to keep the
bugs out of Willie's garden. She
hopped front her hiding -place in
full sight of then all, rolled her eyes
wisely, and snapped at a beetle.
"Mother, father, look! Just see Minard's Liniment cures colds, Eta .
that toad! Where do you suppose
it came from?"
"Why, how lucky I" said Wil-
lie's mother.
How lucky 1" said his father.
"Now your garden is complete; I
was going to hunt for one and bring
ib here. Ws a sort of partnership,
lsrr't it? I am to find the flowers
and keep the weeds down, and the
toad will kill the worms and bugs,
and you and mother can watch
things grow."—Youth's Compan-

Negnac, Allain P. 0., N. B„
Mar. 24 (Special).—Mrs, Joseph 0.
Savoy, a well-known resident of this
place, whose ill -health has been a
matter of much concern to her
friends, is telling of the cure she
found for all her troubles in Dodd's
Kidney Pills and Dodd's Dyspepsia
Tablets.
"My health is fine now," Mrs.
Savoy says, in an interview. "The
pains are gone from my side and
back, and when I go to bed I can
sleep, Before I started using
Dockl's Kidney Pills and Dodd's
Dyspepsia Tablets I could not eat
anything heavy, such. as meat, but
now I can eat practically what I
please with no i11 effects."
Mrs. Savoy was in a generally
run-down condition, and her cure
came about by using the natural
remedies. Dodd's Kidney Pills
cured and invigorated her kidneys,
talus purifying her blood and im-
proving the circulation.
Dodd's Dyspepsia Tablets insured
proper digestion of her food, thus
furnishing the body with the nu-
trition it required. Women with
healthy kidneys and sound diges-
tion can afford to laugh at the
minor ills of life.

A lady restating at Lymington,
England, was in want of a little
girl to weed 'hfe. garden, and tient
her footman to the workhouse to
select a little pauper girl for the
purpose, John brought back a tiny
child, about eight or nine years of
age, and pointed out her tasks• The
child set to work, and began to
ring in tones of more than common
sweetness. The lady's window was
open, orad she ways struck with the

After a short time the lady pin-
posecl to- her husband that they
should adopt the waif as their own
daughter. Every attention was
given to the education of Miss Bore,
for that was her name, and she be -
cable a highly aoeemplished young
lady. Her humility and modesty
never forsook her, Shortly after a
young vicar visited the house. He
became very fond of Miss Bare, and
offered her his hand and heart, but
as he had nothing more -than a.
small living to offer 1103' they agreed
to wait a while. After a year he
returned with the tibia of "very

now no obstacle in the way, so the.
pair were united, and lived many
years respected, beloved, and es-
teemed by all around them.

THE KNOW IIOW
To Feed Children and Get Good
Results.
There are more nervous persons
made so by undigested food lying
in the stomach than the average
individual would suppose,
If food remains undigested in the
stomach, it begins to ferment, set
up gas end a large portion is thus
converted into poison,
That's why imperfectly digested
food may, and often duos, cause ir-
ritation of the nerves and stupor
of the mind—brain' and nerves are
really poisoned.
"My daughter had complained
for some time of a distressed feel-
ing in the stomach, after eating,
which set me thinking that her diet
was not right," writes an anxious
and intelligent mother.
"She had been fond of cereals,
but had never tried Grape -Nuts.
From reading the account of this.
predigested food, it seemed reason-
able to try Grape -Nuts for her
case.
"The results were. really wonder-
ful, The little' brain that seemed
at times unable to do its work, took
on new life and vigor. Every morn-
ing, now, before' going to school,
she eats the crisp little morsels and
is now completely and entirely well,
she seems to have a new lease on
life—no more distress in the sto-
mach, nor heatlaohe, but sound and
well everyway." Name. given by

Storms in Central Africa; In Made-

Thunder storms never occur in
the Arctic regions, Nearer the
equator the more severe are the
electric manifestations.
In certain parts of Central Africa
the average run of thunder storms
is 350 days a year yet. There are
some very curious exceptions, In
Sumatra and Java, both very hot
climates, there are only ninety-two
storms yearly, and in Borneo only
about fifty, The Gold Coast of
Africa has only about sixty a year,
which is less than occur in Florida,
though the latter 'Country is out-
side the tropics.
In Java there is a thunder storm
every day for five months. Per-
haps the most astonishing feet in
regard to thunder storms is that
the Island of Mauritius, which is
only 550 miles from Madagascar,
has on an average only one thunder
storm in eighty years.
Yet in Madagascar the lightning
is more destructive than anywhere
else in the world, the annual num-
ber of deaths being more than 300.

DOGS ATE CHURCH.
Strange Fate Befell House of Wor-

01 all the things that may befall
a church, nothing could be much
stranger than the destruction of a
little house of worship north of
Hudson Bay, as once reported by
the bishop of the diocese.
Ile had attended a synod • of the
Canadian church at Winnipeg, and
there had seen a missionary bishop
who had been six weeks on the way,
having come most of the distance
in a canoe. The missionary bishop
reported gravely that the dlooese of
a brother bishop had "gone to the
clogs."
Being asked for an explanation,
he said that the Esquimalrx in the
diocese had built a church with
whales' ribs for rafters, and cover-
ed it with walrus bide. The little
church held eighty persons; but 3n
the time that elapsed between two
services, the building was sot upon
by a pack of famished dogs, which
aetltally devoured it in a ,few hours.
