A DEMON-TRAI1oN in Bread making
rn the Town Hall, Brussels, Wednesday
�afternoon of this week, was one of the
features of Women's Institute. Miss
McPhee, a Domestic Science expert,
was ot hand as demonstrator to explain
this veru important art, which to some
is a forgotten accomplishment. She
fills the bill to a nicety.
CHANGE OF TEACHERS.- Miss Ger-
trude Ross has tendered her resigna-
tion as teacher on the staff of Brussels
Public School and in the course of a
month expects to move to Prince Albert
Alta., where she takes a position on the
staff there. Miss Ross has done faith-
ful and well reported work and will be
parted with very regretfully. The
School Board has engaged Miss Pearl
Backer, who is teaching in S. S. No. 1,
Grey township, as successor to Miss
Ross, on condition that Miss Baeker is
granted her release at the close of
March. The tette: bas a splendid record
as a teacher and disciplinarian and No.

a statement of the year's transactions
was presented by Manager Calder. It
was clearly shown that, notwithstand
ing the drop in the price of cement, a
material reduction in the outstanding
liabilities of the company has been
made. Criticisms of Mr. Calder's
management in a circular issued by a
fellow -director were most effectively
answered and so satisfactory was his
detailed report that those present en-
trttsted him with their proxies for the
annual meeting in Toronto Wednesday
of this week.

The present term is the most successful
in point of attendance and quality of
work done, that has ever been known
at Listowel Business College. A 'little
over three years ago Edwin G Mat-
thews, Principal of Listowel Business
College, launched into the work of pre
paring young men end women for
positions of responsibility in the busi-
ness world, and his efforts have been
rewarded with splendid success; the
increase to attendance the following
year, viz: January 1011, was 35% over
the previous vear and last year's records

of .58%. 'This increase is due to tl•e
fact that every sturient who enrolls is at

TRIAL NEXT MONDAY. -Donald Mc-
Donald and Murphy, the two men ar-
rested in Windsor, implicated in the
Brussels burglary, were up before Judge
Holt on Saturday for election. They
elected to be tried by jury and their trial
will take place on Monday. March 3rd.
SHORTHORN SALE. -Thursday after
noon of next week, Tames Cowan, a
mile North of Seaforth, will hold a big
dispersion auction sale of Shorthorn

house greeted the Fax Concert Co., of
Toronto, Thursday evening in the
Town Hall at the concert under the
auspices of Brussels Public Library
F. H. Gilroy introduced the Company'
very appropriately. Talent consisted of
Jas Fax. whose name is a household
one in this locality, his daughter, Miss
Jessie, Soprano ; Miss Pearl O'Neil.
elocutionist ; Miss Florence McKay,
pianist and a000mi>anlsti and Robt. Wil-
son, humorous vocalist. There was not
a lame number on the program and
with the repeated encores gave a long
evening of real enjoyment to the big
crowd. The order was splendid and the
financial receipts $t3o.00. Program

In solo taork Miss Fax shows to good
effect with a sweet musical voice and
her duets with her father were well
done. Mr. Fax wears like buckskin and
can always come back. His fun is clean
and cute. This was Miss O'Neil's first
appearance before a Brussels audience
but she made good from the start and
will be welcome back any time. Her
duets with Mr. Wilson made a bit,

Mss, '1'. KELLY DEAD.- Wednesday
afternoon as Mrs. Thus. Kelly was at-
tending a meeting of the Guild at St.
John's rectory .he was overcome by
something of the character of a stroke
of paralysis and lay in an unconscious
condition until about ro a m Thursday
when she passed away. Mrs Kelly
was in the enlovment of a good measure
of health awl was congratulating herself
ou the way she was ge ling through the
Winter, Many old friends will regret
to hear of her sodden demise. She was
an exceptionally fine woman Mr.
I< illy died some years ago. Mrs. Kelly
was in her 77th year but wonderfully
.vell preserved.

the old boys of Huron Co. on the fact
that between them they bad Managed

best jails in the city and Fred. Johnson.

Sir Jnhu, which was beautifully illtum•-
nated, was then read by Secretary E.
Floddy and handed by him to the recip
tent. In reply Sir John thanked the
Association for its expression of good-
will and spoke briefly on incidents con-
nected with the history of Huron and
of the achievements of representatives
of the county in Toronto. Letters of
regret were received from Major Gener-
al Otter and W. K. McNaught, M. P.,
members of the association, who were
unable to attend.
