CHANGE OF TEACHERS.- Miss Ger- trude Ross has tendered her resigna- tion as teacher on the staff of Brussels Public School and in the course of a month expects to move to Prince Albert Alta., where she takes a position on the staff there. Miss Ross has done faith- ful and well reported work and will be parted with very regretfully. The School Board has engaged Miss Pearl Backer, who is teaching in S. S. No. 1, Grey township, as successor to Miss Ross, on condition that Miss Baeker is granted her release at the close of March. It was clearly shown that, notwithstand ing the drop in the price of cement, a material reduction in the outstanding liabilities of the company has been made. Criticisms of Mr. Calder's management in a circular issued by a fellow -director were most effectively answered and so satisfactory was his detailed report that those present en- trttsted him with their proxies for the annual meeting in Toronto Wednesday of this week. FIRST-cLAss CONCERT.- A packed house greeted the Fax Concert Co., of Toronto, Thursday evening in the Town Hall at the concert under the auspices of Brussels Public Library F. H. Gilroy introduced the Company' very appropriately. Talent consisted of Jas Fax. whose name is a household one in this locality, his daughter, Miss Jessie, Soprano ; Miss Pearl O'Neil. elocutionist ; Miss Florence McKay, pianist and a000mi>anlsti and Robt. Wil- son, humorous vocalist. There was not a lame number on the program and with the repeated encores gave a long evening of real enjoyment to the big crowd. In solo taork Miss Fax shows to good effect with a sweet musical voice and her duets with her father were well done. Mr. Fax wears like buckskin and can always come back. His fun is clean and cute. This was Miss O'Neil's first appearance before a Brussels audience but she made good from the start and will be welcome back any time. Her duets with Mr. Wilson made a bit, The latter was .a new than and conse- quently untried but he did his part famously and was at home with the audience in a way seldom seen, The duets of Messrs. Fax and Wilson were first-class and in both costumes and music were very heartily enjoyed. KELLY DEAD.- Wednesday afternoon as Mrs. Thus. Kelly was at- tending a meeting of the Guild at St. John's rectory .he was overcome by something of the character of a stroke of paralysis and lay in an unconscious condition until about ro a m Thursday when she passed away. Mrs Kelly was in the enlovment of a good measure of health awl was congratulating herself ou the way she was ge ling through the Winter, Many old friends will regret to hear of her sodden demise. She was an exceptionally fine woman Mr. I< illy died some years ago. Mrs. Kelly was in her 77th year but wonderfully .vell preserved. Floddy and handed by him to the recip tent. In reply Sir John thanked the Association for its expression of good- will and spoke briefly on incidents con- nected with the history of Huron and of the achievements of representatives of the county in Toronto. Letters of regret were received from Major Gener- al Otter and W. K. McNaught, M. P., members of the association, who were unable to attend.
