from his work for a number of weeks.

necessitating a long haul for both salt

Dean AT 84 YEARS oT ACE.- A former
well known Brussel to passed away last
Monday at Hensall in the person of
Hugh McMartin, in his 84th year. He
hal been in failing health for several
years but was only confined to bed for
about three months Mr. McMartin
was born near Ottawa and his wife,
who survives, was Miss Margaret Mc•
Carttey, of Seaforth. Four Sons (Dun
can, Hensall ; Robert. Seaforth ; Hugh
and Peter, Winnipeg) and four daugh-
ters (Mrs. Norton, Trout Creek, Ont.
Mrs. Johnston and Mrs. Hambreacht,
of Detroit and Mrs. W. Wilton, Brus-
sels) constitute the family, All were
here for the funeral on Wednesday
afternoon excepting the daughters in
Detroit, Rev, Mr. Wren, Ethel, con.
ducted the service owing to Rev. Dr.
Oaten's illness. Funeral toots place
from the home of W and Mrs, Wilton,
William street, It is 16 years since the
McMartin family removed from Brus-
sels Deceased was a shoemaker by
trade anti was a well read man. Io
religion he was a Methodist and in
politics a staunch Liberal. Mr, Mc-
Martin lived at Hensel! for about 13
years.

resolution was moved by Wm Gibson
and seconded by R G. Bowie. The -
resolution spoke in the highest terms of,.
the work of Mr. and Mrs. Cosecs since
coming to the charge 'in July last

quite poorly but we hope will soon be

Dr. Fred. Bryans assumed the duties
of his new practice this week, as suc-
cessor to the late Dr. McKelvey, He
is retaining the sante offices. We wet -

Mrs. Finlay McIntosh, of Blyth, who

Recommendations Made by a Gather-
ing of Huron Membore
The meeting of representatives of
the lodges of A. O. U. W. of Huron
Oounty, held in Clinton was well at-
tended and after discussing the hot?on
of the Grand Lodge and the proposed,
new scale of rates, it was resolved to
recommend the Grand Lodge to ac-
cept and adopt the following amend-
ment to the Constitution in regard to
the question.of assessments.t
"From and. after the first day ot
May 1013, each and every present
member of this Order and every new
member shall .without notice, pay to
the Financier of the Lodge, monthly
assessment of the amount designated
opposite the age of the member at the
date of admission to theOrde', accord-
ing to the Hunter• graded. plan.
And in order that the whole mem-
bership may be brought to tui equality
from au fnsurrence standpoint at the
first of May, 1913, it is hereby decreed
and enacted that each and every mem-
ber of the Order who. joined previous
to 1905, shall be charged up from bile
date of his initiation with the present
of 1905 rate, designated opposite the
age of the mernber at the date of his
admission to the Order and tire differ-
ence between the necessary annual
payments obtained under those rates
and what each olid every member
actually paid in each andevery year
up to 1905, shall be carried forward to
the first day of May, 1018, al i per
cent per annum inte>'est and the suln
of the accutnuletted differences will)

each member shall be regat'cled as a
loan to said member from the. Order
