JAMESTOWN
• Died in the West,—Word has been
received of the death of John W. Poi-
lock at Lydden, Sask., in his 63rd
year. Death took place on the 10th
of August.and the body was interred
in the Biggar Cemetery. The ae-
ceased left Jamestown locality about
9 years ago for the West, and besicee
his widow and 7 children, he is Sur-
vived by one sister, Mrs. Thos. Smith,
and a brother, Andrew Pollock, of
this locality. More particulars are
expected later.

was born in Walton 47 years ago' and
after. his marriage in 1902 to bis now
bereaved partner, Mise Eleanor Flet-
cher, of Ethel, they lived in Seaforth
during the war where he was employ-
ed in the munition plant. Since then
be has been engaged in farthing. In
religion he was a true Salvationist.
Besides his widow, 5 eons, Melvin 0.,"
Fletcher J., R. Emmersoh,Clayton S.,
Leslie A, and two .daughters, Viola
R., and Edith L. are left to mourn the
lose of a good husband and father.
His aged mother, Mee. John Storey,
two brothers, Torn and Russel ; three
sisters, Mrs, M. Thornton, Henfryn ;
Mrs. Alex Russel, Brussels, and Mrs.
M. McLeod, of town, also survive.
The funeral was held on Friday and
was conducted by the Salvation Of-
ficers, Capt. Neville and Lieut. Tid•
man. The pallbearers were J. R.
Archibald. 3. A, Case, John McLen-
nan, George Lowry, John Pinkney
and Fred Adams. Among those who
attended the funeral were Mre, John
Storey and ,two sons, Leadbury ; M,
Thornton- and children, Henfryn ;
Thos. and Mrs. Mills, Mrs Wee. Som -
ere and. John Beirnes, of Ethel Robt,
and Mrs. Pasquale. D. and Mrs. Mc-

interesting Soft Ball tournament at
Henfryn last week and once again
met the feet Milverton team in the
finals and lost out by a very close
score.
A special service will be held in the
Ethel United Church on Sunday at
7 p.. m., when the preacher will preach
and Union Church choir will have

Alexander street, have returned from
an extended visit . with friends near
London. A night prowler has been
admiring Mee. Wheeler's garden in •
her absence and has been living on
the fruit thereof.
Mrs. Moffatt,. of Saulte'Ste Marie,
has been seriously i11 for some time
and recentlyundeiwent an operation
in the General ,hospital there, but
has been able to return borne feeling
much •better. Mrs. Moffatt is a
daughter of Mts.-Richardeen and a
former resident of Brussels, Her old
friends all wish her, good health.
Dr. A. W, L. Gilpin is leaving De-.
troit for his holidays, next week, Fri- `
day, Aug, 28th, on steamer, Hamonic,
enroute for Ft, William, accompanied
by Mrs. Gilpin. On their way to Van-
couver, they will eall and see friends,
going on to. California, where they
willvisit g

returning homy by Salt Lake Oit v,
Denver and Chicago. They expect to
be away 88 Saye and hope to have an
enjoyable trip. "
Rev. Dr. Oaten, Mrs. Oaten and.
Miss B. Oaten leave next week by
auto for Vancouver. They 'will fol-
low the Lincoln highway to Salt, Lake
City. The trip will occupy three
weeks. Mrs. and Miss Oaten will re-
main on the Pacific Coast for the
