Died in Saskatchewan :—The death
took place at her home in Assmiboia,
Sask.,. on Wednesday, May 18th, of
Carolme M. (Carrie Berry) beloved
wife of Geo. E. Winfield, after a long
and painful illness from cancer, Mrs.
Winfield was born on the 12th con.
of McKillop, on August 23rd, 1886,
and was married to her now bereft
husband, January 1st 1008 in Cypvees
River, Man., where they lived for
several years, moving to Griffin, Saslc,
where they raided till a year egg
when they moved to Assinilmia. Mrs.
Winfield leaves to mourn her. lobs
besides her husband, a daughter, Mar-
jory, 16 years of age, also her mother
Mrs. Berry, of Walton, and four
sisters, Mrs. A.. Young and Mro. J.
Y. Campbell, Cypress River, Men.,
Mts. 3. C. Butchart, Castor, Alta.,
Mrs. J. J. McGavin, Walton, Ont., and

The "Union" friends are holding
their annual Sunday School picnic
in the Ethel Park on Saturday after-
noon, weather permitting.
An emergent meeting of the Offi-
cial Board of the Ethel Circuit of the
Methodist church, will be held Satur-
day afternoon 'after the picnic.
The Ethel Foot Ball team lost last
Friday night to Brussels by a score
of 1-0. The visitors scored in the
first period. A big crowd was tires.

On behalf of the Ethel Methodist
Church, Rev. H. White wishes to
apologize to the members of the Or-
ange Lodge because seats were not
reserved at the special service last
Sunday. The ushers tried to keep
five rows in front, but such a large
congregation gathered that tt seerntd
to be impossible to keep the seats
clear. As it was over one hundred
were turned away, unable to get in-
side the church at all and the alory
had to he opened up. The Roe's Or-
chestra did splendidly and added to
the effectiveness of the service. Mr.
Addy sang "The Holy City' in a clear
voice. Representatives from Atwood,
Brussels, Listowel, Milverton and
Gowanstown were present. On Sun-
day next Mr. White will preach a
farewell sermon at 7 o'clock, and he
excects to leave Ethel on the atter
noon train on Monday. He takes this
opportunity of thanking those who
have in any way helped to maks his
services a success. He will always
speak kindly of the Ethel circuit.

William 3. McCracken was recom-
mended to the Grand Lodge as next
District Deputy Grand Master for
District No. 9, I. 0. 0. at a meet-
ing a district representatives hola in
Wingham last .7.hursday afternoon.
It is expected that the Grand Lodge
will make the appointment in June.
Walter VanWyck, Wingharn, was ap-
pointed Senior Warden .for the com-
ing term.
Mr. MoCracken has been an activs
vrorkor in Western Star Lodge, Brus-
sels and his friends, are proud that
the District has thus honored him
with this position.

of thanks to the retiring District De-

The llth annual meeting of Malt -
land Presbyterial was held in Luck -
now May lath, 1925. The morning
session opened a 10 o'clock with Mrs.
Harkness, Presiding. Reports pre-
sented indicated a prosperous year
Corresponding Secretary reported 29
Auxiliaries holding 325 meetings;
there were 22 Life Memberships pur-
chased and 4 "In Memoriam" sub-
scriptions; 265 Home Helpers; Offer-
ing $420.99.; Clothing value $432.25;
"Messengers" 744; Thankoffering
$2812.04; total . amount for 1924
$6179.29. Mission Band Secretary
reported 642 members and 30 Life
Members; value of clothing sent
$166.32; Thankoffering $212.28; to-
tal raised by Mission Band $115142.
Y. W. A. Secretary reported 5 Auxi-
liaries offering $151.10. Treasurer's
report was very encouraging, $1600.-
99 being raised for all purposes.
The morning session adjourned at
12 o'clock for luncheon. The ladies
of the church very hospitably enter-
tained the delegates during the. day.
The address of welcome was given
by Mrs. W. L. McKenzie and replied
to by Mrs. Anderson.
In the afternoon the address by the
President, Mrs. Harkness, was from
John 15 "Ye have not chosen Me. but
I have chosen you". God has a pro-
gram; our direction is God's word,
preparation and prayer; some, go,
some give, and some pray. We need
to recognize that God is with us, that
assures to us strength and victory..
Mrs. Murdie gave a very inspiring
report of the Provincial meetings in
London. There are 62106 members
of the W. M. S. in Ontario. She re-
ported an increase in every line on
Presbyterial reports.
Rev. Campbell, of Pine River,
broue•ht the greetings of the Prosb.y-
tory. These were very kindly receiv-
ed.
Owing to ill -health, Mrs. Walker,
of Toronto, was unable to be present,
but Mrs. Johnston, President of Tor-
onto Presbyterial, ably took her place ;

The theme of the Conference was
"Christ for the World, and the World e
for Christ," Christ is the only solu-
tion for our troubles. There is no c
limitation to the work a woman may
do. The duty of the whole church
is to broadcast the. good news to all
nations. The East is watetung tie, we
should do our work with a Christian b
spirit. Go forth and tell.

is also an enthusiastic member of the

& A.M. Mrs. Weller, has been Presi-
dent of the Women's Institute and a
Sunday School teacher in the Metho-
dist Sunday School. Mrs. Weller,
and Bobby and Mrs. Weller Sr., ex-
pect to move shortly to their new
home. Citizens will all wish them

Foot Ball team won at Ethel last Fri-
day evening by ascore of 1-0. The
game was a good, clean exhibition,
and fast plays were made on ban

A Quiet Wedding:—On Saturday
evening at 6 &clock, Rev. J. P. Mc-
Leod, tied the matrimonial knot bc-
twen Valjeria M., daughter of Mrs.
Ida Willis and Mr. Herbert H. Sulli-
van, of the Standard Bank, Brussels,
at the Melville Church Manse. The
young couple were attended by Mr.
and Mrs. V. L. Sanderson, of Wing -
ham. After the wedding supper at
the home of the bride's mother, the
young couple spent a short honey-
moon at Stratford and Kitchener.
The bride wore a blue georgette dress
and her going -away suit was blue
with hat to makch. Mr. and Mrs.
Sullivan will live in Brussels. Hearty
congratulations are extended to the
young couple.
Mrs. Stiles Passes Away.—After a
serious illness for the past three
weeks, Annie Wilton, relict of the
late Joseph Stiles, passed away in
London on Wednesday of last 'week,
at the age of 72 years. The body,
was brought to Brussels and the fun-
eral was held from the home of her
son, Wm' Stiles, John Street, 021 Fri-
day afternth
afternoon. Services at e house
and grave were conducted by Rev.
Mr. Lewin, of St. John's Church. In-
terment was made in Brussels Cente-
tery. Deceased was born in Brussels
and spent practically all her life in
this neighborhood. Her husband
predeceased her 3 years ago. She
leaves a family of two sons, William,
n town; Samuel in the West; and one
daughter, Mrs. S. Cudmoret of Hen -
all. Deceased is also survived by 3
brothers, Samuel and William Wilton
of town and Jake of Guelph. The
pallbearers were :—Jas. Fox, Jro,
Hewitt, W. Gillespie, W. J. McCrack-
n, N. F. Gerry and N. Chapman. The
bereaved have the sympathy of the
ommunity in their loss.
