some of the streets at nights when they
should be under the parental roof, and
if not thus cared for the Constable will be
asked to take charge. They interfere
with cars, play on the middle of the
streets, at the risk of their lives, and are
none too polite to passersby, Now is the

HOLIDAY RUNS THROUGH OCTOBER, —
Several people had the impression that
the weekly half holiday terminated with
the end of September but such is not
the case as the vote of the Business
Mens' Association was to run it through
October, hence Thursday afternoon holi-
day will continue to November ist. The
shorter days and cooler weather may not
add to the pleasure of these holidays but
the program will be carried out for this
seasou anyway, no matter what change
may be made for next year.
CHANG2 in TALENT.—Owing to the
Orpheus Male Quartette taking perm-
anent employment in Toronto, the Fall
Fair Concert here will be in the hands of
Harry Bennett, Scottish Comedian ;
Miss lassie Butt, an eminent Contralto ;

lows visited Brussels last Thursday even-
ing when a visiting candidate received
the ist degree at the hands of Western
Star team. Brussels Lodge is planning
to visit Mitchell brethren on the occasion
of Stratford Degree team puling on

BASKET WORK AND HAN» CARVING.—
A display of ;work done by soldiers of
Westminster Hospital, Loudon. will be
made at Brussels Fall Fair ou Friday, in
the shape of Basket work and hand car-
ving. Tne geode will be offerd for sale
by the Women's Institute, Brussels, pro•
coeds to be applied to the Soldiers'
Fund. The work is very nice and
should be seen by those who attend the
Fair.
MAS, 1N0, SHANNON, a former Brus-
selite, passed amity at the home of her
daughter ill tbe West recently, Inter-
ment was made in London cemetery,
where Mr. Shannon was buried. De.
Ceased was a fine woman and will be re,
membered by the older folk in Brussels.
Mr, Shannon was proprieter of the tan•
nary here and after selling out clerked in
the grocery store of the late W, 15. Mc.

PASSED O. T. A. RESOLUTION.—At a
meeting of the Presbytery of Maitland
held last week the following resolution
was passed regarding the 0, T. A.,:—
"The Presbytery of Maitland places it-
self unanimously on record as deeply ap•
preeiating the great good done by the
Ontario Temperance Act during the few
years it has been in operation, in spite
of the many difficulties in the way of its
enforcement, and believe it would be a
step backward to repeal it. We urge
its Ministers, Elders and church
members to work zealously during the
present campaign to the end that the
present law may be retained on our Stat.

Mrs. Zapfe and children., Murray and
Betty Lou, and Mrs Neil McLauehlin,
former's mother. returned to their home
in Toronto last week after an enjoyable
visit with Robt, and Mrs, Thomson,
Queen street.

Mary Helen, Toronto, were here over

THE PosT was glad to see Wilfred
Dennis, Walton locality in town last Sat-
urday. He is still on crutches but getting
along well. He will no doubt have Kin -
burn and 1924 Football match indelibly
imprinted on his mind.
Miss Ruby Kernaghan is home from
a month's happy visit with relatives and
"Fiends at the Soo. She took the boat
at Sarnia and enjoved the sail on old
Huron. The trip did Miss Ruby good
and she added 23 pounds to her avoirdu-
poise as proof thereof.
r:rMrs. Robert Wilson, Winnipeg, and
Mrs. Russel Richmond, Blyth, were
callers in town last Monday. The
former was a resident of this locality
years ago and is a daughter of the late
Jno, Vincent. Mr. Wilson is a son of
the late W. R. and Mrs. Wilson. old and
well known Brusselites in days gone by.
Mrs, Wilson is good terms with Father
Time judging by her appearance,
Jas, Bowman, ex -M. P., Toronto, was
here last week. We are glad to know
that be and Mrs. Bowman purpose be-
coming residents of Bpssseis moving in-
to the home of their son, Robert, Alex-
ander street, in the course of a month.
Mr, and Mrs. Bowman were formerly of
this locality acid hence are no strangers
to many folk about here and will be wel-
come back to the old friends,

Mrs, (Rev,) Harkness, Ripley, will
speak in Melville church next Sabbath
morning.
Rev, Byron Snell, Atwood, will preach
in the Methodist church next Sabbath,
Rev. Mr, Clarke taking anniversary ser-
vices at Atwood.

Little Stars Mission Band will be held in
Melville church next Monday evening at

Last Sabbath the pastor was in his
own pulpit in the Methodist church at
both services and gave good sermons.

given and was an interesting service,

in Melville church last Sabbath was com-
bined with the regular morning worship,
the pastor giving the address on ••Neigh
hors". In the evening. Rev. Mr,
McLeod preached.
Harvest Thanksgiving services will
be held in St., John's Church, Sunday.

Methodist minister in Western Can-
ada, whose annual sermons were a
feature of the religious life of Calgary,
passed to hie reward on October le,
1928, at the advanced age of 94 years.
They were parents of Rev, Mr, Oragg,
Wingham.
