many happy, prosperous years. They
will continue to reside in town,
LAST week John Rutledge met with a
serious accident. He was chopping in
his father's bush, Morris towisbip, when
he struck his left foot with the axe, in-
flicting a nasty cut. The injured roan
was hurried to town and the wound sew-
ed up. Although weak from loss of
blood he is getting along nicely and will
soou be o. k, we hope.
GARAGE AND TOURING C tR BURNED, -
Early Friday morning the Garage at the
dome of Robt. Thomson, Queen street,
was destroyed by fire and worse than
fhat his fine McLaughlin touring car was
a'so burned. Cause of the fire is un•
known, unless from a short circuit on
the car. It appeared to be all rigbt when
housed at to o'clock the night before.
Fames had got such a headway before
discovery nothing could be saved. Mr,
Thomson's Ford coupe was in the gar-
age up town hence was not included in
the burn up.

plots, Whoever the culprits are they
are playing a dangerous role and if the
enquiry being made results in placing
the guilt it may be a dear pilfering. It's
a shabby trick and should be cut out.

Emmons, Tillsooburg. were visiting
with Brussels friends last week.
Frank and Mrs. Woods were visiting
relatives and, friends at Alliston and
other points, and enjoYed a flue time.
Mrs. W. A. Lowry and sons, McCurdy
and Jack, are back from an enjoyable
visit with relatives and friends at the

Mrs. Mathieson, formerly Miss Emma
Colvin. who spent the past few months
visittug relatives and old frieuds, has
returned: to ber home at Brandon,
Man. She went via Chicago.

lived here for past 6 years, accompanied
Mrs. Kerr and will live with his grand.

sr, is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis.
The visitors were motoring.
Josbua Bateman spent the 'week end
with his brother Jbhu, in town. He is
an old resident of this locality and
has fathfuliyserved the old G. T. R. rail-
way, now C, N. R , for many a year,
Toronto Uniou Station has been Mr.
Bateman's busy quarters, where he is a
well known and -most obliging official.
He addressed the Methodist Sabbath.

Maitland Presbytery and Presbyterial
met in Wingham on Monday and Wing -

Next Sunday. Sept. 21st, there will be
no morning or evening sevices in St,
lobe's Anglican Church, Brussels, but
the service will be held at 3 p. m. Rev.
W. B. Hawkins. of Blyth, will be the
preacher.
Mrs, Kempson sang a beautiful solo in
the Anglican Church Sunday evening,
and she and Mr. Kepsoo and Mr. Piling,
ton sang a very beautifuily harmonized
trio - "Come unto Me",
A sermon full ot genuine pep. was
given last Sunday morning, in Melville
Church, on the O. T. A., by Rev,
Mr, McLeod in which present law was
ably defended. Rev, Mr. Telford. Blyth,
occupied the pulpit in the evening,
preaching an able discourse.
Rev. T. C. Wilkinson, Bluevale, con-
ducted the services in the Methodist
Church with great acceptance, In the
morning he dealt in a very practical
manner with the question of Brother-
hood, and iu the evening dwelt on
Exemplifying the Christian life. Pastor
was at Bluevale,
Rev. H. Snell, Wingham, will conduct
Brussels Anglican Church Harvest
Thanksgiving Services on Oct. 22111.
