sorry to hear of the sad accident that

mer cottage, while his wife and children
stood helpless to aid him, Hie 4 child-
ren were in bathing with him at the
time of the accident. Barnes was
known as a strong swimmer, and the
beach Where be was bathing is consider-
ed as safe, It is believed that cramps
caused the accident. The body was
carried some distance in the undertow,
The body was quickly recovered, but re-
suscitation measures were useless, Dr,
McKenzie declared death accidental.
The remains were taken to Essex. and

A Lesson for us AU
The death of Oalvin Onolidt e, Jit, carries the tra-
gic lesson which ought to be heeded in every Cana -
titan home,
This fit, clean*living, fun -loving American boy,
with every privilege and every care which boy could
have, is stricken down by the fatal consequences of
an abrasion so trifling that he thought iG uuwotthy
of mention, It just happened that the deadly germ
was at hand to infect the wound. Once its work be-
gan all the skill of modern science could not check it.
No wound, no breaking of the body surface, how-
ever small, should be neglected. Immediate cleans -
Ing and immediate application of an antiseptic are
Precautions which should be taken without fail. A
touch of iodine or some like germicide may save a
fife if made in time.
Ohildren should be taught to seek at ones the
preventative. It, should be always quickly available
in every home. A thousand such wounds may heal
ghernaelyes, bub any one may prove the cause of
death. There ie no knowing which one until it is too
late. Therefore chance ehould,be taken with none.
A rational concern for these possible causes of
serious trouble does not mean softness, but it means
safety. A. boy will not be lees a boy because he has
the sense to forestall dangers that are real and ter-
rible, He will only be a wiser boy, more .likely to
grow into a useful manhood and with lees fear of ill
because he knows how to guard against it.
let—Apply Iodine to the wound. Do not wash the
wound.
